Someone in my concealed carry class made the 'rack the slide' comment. The teacher told them that told the bad guys two things: 1) Where you are, and 2) You weren't prepared.
My practice is: no warnings. Just a flash and a loud noise. Perhaps several of them.

Your teacher overlooked 2 more important things it tells an intruder 1) You have been detected, 2) the homeowner is waiting for you with a loaded shotgun. under those circumstances 99 % of intruders will retreat rapidly. After all, their goal is not steal your property not to get into a gunfight. I dont know about you, but its been many years since I pizzed someone off enough that they wanted to kill me, and I never pizzed anyone off enough that they would try while I’m ensconsed with a shotgun.
