Newt Gingrich goes deeper on immigration plan
Politico ^ | 11/28/2011 | GINGER GIBSON

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Newt Gingrich responded to the controversy over his stance on illegal immigration by going deeper.

At a town hall here Monday evening hosted by tea party favorite Rep. Tim Scott, Gingrich outlined a seven-part plan and called for withholding federal funds from “sanctuary cities,” that don’t enforce federal immigration laws.

Gingrich also pitched a “World War II selective service model” for long-term illegal immigrants that would allow them to receive support from their communities — and remain in the country.

While they wouldn’t be deported, Gingrich said they would also not receive citizenship or be allowed to vote, drawing a distinction between his proposal and amnesty.

“I don’t believe you’ll ever pass a bill that requires us to hunt down every single person who has lived here illegally,” he said.

Gingrich has been under fire since endorsing a “humane” policy on immigration that allowed people who have been in the country for decades to remain without getting deported. Though some of the criticism was blunted by the break from campaigning over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Gingrich’s comments have opened the first major line of attack for his rivals since he’s shot forward in the polls.

“I don’t believe you’ll ever pass a bill that requires us to hunt down every single person who has lived here illegally,” he said.

The classic strawman of the amnesty crowd that ignores the self-deportation benefits of enforcing existing laws.

Here's the solution...already been tried, tested, and found to be entirely successful!

How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico

I DO like this plan and I am very happy to see the other parts of it...which I like too. I particularly like that he will seal the border.

Yep, that article is a classic. Eisenhower sheltered the BP from corrupting influences, so the enforcement program worked. Newt has been co-opted by those influences for a long, long time, but we are supposed to ignore that history and believe that he is serious about addressing this issue.

I particularly like that he will seal the border.

The border was supposed to be sealed as part of Simpson-Mazzoli. It never happened.

Instead, a new wave of illegals came here to wait for the next amnesty. Those are the very people New wants to put on his 'path to non-deporation'.

I guess it's your choice to believe that Newt is serious now despite his long history of pushing for amenesty and non-enforcement. I don't.

Newt on immigration
http://www.newt.org/solutions/immigration

Newt’s solution
(My comments)

1. Control the border
…Round-the-clock drone flights to monitor activity, multi-layer, strategic fencing in urban areas, and vastly improved communication between state and federal authorities.
(So they can ground the drones whenever they want to)

2. Create a 21st Century Visa Program
…A biometric, tamper-proof card.
(let everyone in)

3. “In-source” the best brains in the world
…Allow easier transition from an F (student) visa to an H1-B (high-skill) visa.
…Allow qualified foreign students to transition immediately into the American workforce.
(Make it easier for foreign students to compete against Americans for jobs and keep wages down)

4. Allow foreigners, who want to spend money, invest and create jobs in America to do so.

(What he is saying here is to do away with the $1 million minimum investment required for an EB-5 program that allows foreigners to move here. Open business based on the foreigner’s skill to raise American capital, as long as he employees people for 10 years)

Also
…More consular staff and a video interview program… … to create more tourism jobs.

(Newt points out that we loose millions of tourist a year do to illegal immigration)

(Make it easier for the rich to retire in America)

5. There has to be a legal quest worker program, but its management must be outsourced to a sophisticated manager of anti-fraud systems, such as American Express, Visa, or Mastercard.

(Replace E-Verify for guest workers and pay corporations for providing biometric cards)

6. Create a path to earned legality for some of the millions of people who are here outside the law.

(Oh, there are only 8 to 12 million illegal aliens)

…”A citizens’ review” “in individual communities” to “determine who will continue on this path to legality, and who will be sent home.”
(to insure that communities remain segregated)

…”those here outside the law will be granted Temporary Legal Status”
(All of them)

…”must be able to prove that they can independently pay for private health insurance”
…”proficiency in English within a certain number of years”
(Is he talking about those that have already been here 25 years? My neighbor wouldn’t qualify)

…”pay a penalty of at least $5,000”
(Each of their kids cost the taxpayer approximately $130,000 for kindergarten thru 12th grade)

…”prove on a regular basis that they can support themselves”

7. Deportation of criminals and gang members should be efficient and fast.
(Nothing about sanctuary cities)

8. Ensure that every new citizen and every young American learn American history and the key principles of American Exceptionalism.

9. English must be the official language of government.

10. Young non-citizens who came to the United States outside the law should have the same right to join the military and earn citizenship.

…there will not be an option to petition for legal status and citizenship for their parents…

“The border was supposed to be sealed as part of Simpson-Mazzoli. It never happened.”

Speaker Gingrich is very aware of that...and will not allow it to be repeated.

And I fully believe that we will take control of the House again....and perhaps the Senate too. We NEED to be focusing a LOT more on just that.

With Legislative and Executive branches working together, we can BEGIN to undo the mess of the last 50 years or so.

Once again,,this AM,,we have a boat load of smugglers trying to land on the beach below our house. We only see the ones that get caught, but when the tide is high and there is no moon or overcast..you can be sure they are landing somewhere.
Without alerts from the general public they would never be caught because there is little enforcement along the coast.
If Newt is elected we will get only one part of his plan..indefinite stays for current illegals. The rest will disappear in the haze.

Spare me the BS. Newt has a long, long history of being on the wrong side of this debate, and you want me to just put all of that history aside and believe he is truly serious now?

“Spokesman R.C. Hammond said that piece of the proposal had nothing to do with recommendations by some tea party groups that the 14th Amendment of the Constitution does not guarentee citizenship children of illegal immigrants.
Instead, Hammond said, it was part of Gingrich’s general push to ensure that Americans are aware of the nation’s history.”

What the hell does that mean? Is he for or against touchdown babies?

Once again, the politicians don't get it.

That's amnesty, you adulterous buffoon.

I think his plan would run into a brick wall in the courts.

They would never allow the Government to confer “second class” status on Mexicans, forever depriving them of citizenship or the vote, while other immigrants are allowed to move ahead in this process.

Perhaps Newt has written his plan with this in mind?

The only way this would ever be trusted by me is if there were criminal charges and heavy sentences against any American - including elected officials - who subverted the immigration policy. Otherwise it is all bs.

"“I don’t believe you’ll ever pass a bill that requires us to hunt down every single person who has lived here illegally,” he said."

But he believes a bill hunting down "millions" of Illegals is passable.....

He needs to stop digging.

Amnesty.

Thanks to the GOP, we’re facing another 2008.
