ENDING THE DISHONESTY: THE WAY FORWARD ON BORDER CONTROL AND PATRIOTIC IMMIGRATION
AEI.org ^ | April 26, 2006 | Newt Gingrich

And doing it the right way means that all those who are currently working in the United States illegally and who wish to apply for the worker visa program must return to their home country and apply. Application for the worker visa program should not be permitted in the United States under any circumstances.

Anything less than requiring people who are working here illegally to return home to apply for a worker visa is amnesty.

There are several reasons why amnesty would be a disaster for the United States and migrants and why those who are working here illegally but who wish to take part in the worker visa program must first return home to get in line and apply.

This guy is all over the map on this issue. He'll say anything to get the nomination, apparently.

Agreed. This is 180 degrees out of phase with what he said just two days ago.

Flip-flopping on crucial issues is unacceptable whether it is John Kerry, Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich.

Illegal immigration has undeniably had a savage impact on our nation, particularly the regions where it has been rampant. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t been very bad for other areas, because all citizens are burdened with supporting the illegals through the taking of our earnings to pay their way.

Somehow, some of the bright-paths in the federal government have come up with a great new idea to ‘FIX’ illegal immigration. They want to make the mass influx of foreign nationals into our nation legal.

Folks, if the presence of 20 to 35 million souls who can’t support themselves is bad, what difference does it make if they are here legally, or illegally?

Granted, the illegal is breaking the law, but the burden he represents is no different a one than if he were here legally. A financial burden, a regional blight, a severe negative impact on our education or health care system, is not repaired or prevented by changing 20 to 35 million poor uneducated people and their children to legal from illegal.

We need to stop the work, the benefits, the services, the positive aspects for illegals by being on our soil. We need to see them repatriate in large numbers.

Then we actually need to see a 20 to 30 year moratorium on any immigration whatsoever so our nation can heal.

Beyond that, we need to end immigration from terrorist supporting nations, and religious institutions on our soil that promote violence or altering our nation’s laws to make us more like the hovel they escaped from.

We are not moral equals, some of these folks and us. It time we acted like adults and admitted this.

Newt is the Romney eradicator. Praise be.

After that, we need a Newt eradicator.

I’m just waiting for his supporters to show up on this thread and claim that since this statement was issued in 2006, before anyone understood what a big problem illegal immigration was, then it is irrelevant and Newt should be given a pass, just like on his contradictory global warming activities.

Don't hold your breath. Their argument thus far has been to say that it was not amnesty that Newt was proposing. In his own words this says it is.

According to Newt, if an illegal has managed to evade capture long enough to beget anchor babies (a.k.a. "put down roots" and "have a family"), it is "inhumane" to subject him to the law.

Bye bye, Newt. We eliminated La Raza Rick from the contest, and we will do the same with you. Go back to writing trashy "history" books.

I am surprised Newts’ proposed amnesty has not hurt him in the polls, I find that very discouraging.

Discouraging is an understatement. Amnesty is the last thing this country needs. Newt was right about one thing, it will damage this country.

That's what Newt said when he is running for president.

Here is what he said five years ago when he was not.

There are several reasons why amnesty would be a disaster for the United States and migrants and why those who are working here illegally but who wish to take part in the worker visa program must first return home to get in line and apply.

As I said, Newt is all over the map on this issue. He cannot be trusted.

You just can not be an American conservative and be for amnesty for illegals. If 1986 taught the nation anything it is that amnesty only begets more illegal invaders. I was supporting Newt but his amnesty proposal has put me very close to an “Anyone but Newt” position. I am giving Ron Paul another look. Sad that a crazy Ron Paul could be the best we’ve got this election cycle.

I live in rural San Diego County where ILLEGAL immigration has affected both my personal and professional life. That, combined with my conservative political philosophy prevent me from ever supporting a pro-amnesty candidate regardless his/her name or past.

I live in a little fishing village in Texas, 15 years ago there were 750 people here, overwhelming American, now there are 2500 and most are illegals. Soon the South West will no longer be American if things do not change and fast.

One thing that can be done, and isn’t is to enforce the laws we have now. Nobody in DC seems to want to.
