2 with ties to Perdue surrender at Wake jail

RALEIGH. N.C. — Two people with close ties to North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue have surrendered at the Wake County jail on charges related to campaign finance violations.
Both were quickly released Wednesday on $50,000 unsecured bonds.
Juleigh Sitton of Morganton recently resigned as director of the governor's Western Office. Sitton was indicted on two felony charges Monday, accused of accepting $32,000 in secret salary payments from illegal campaign donations when she worked for Perdue's 2008 campaign.

Which is pretty OK with me. She'll be gone in 2012, and the underlings won't be able to hook on to another slimeball.
I've still no idea how she got elected. I know a guy who was working directly on her '08 campaign with her well enough to ask him - "So, what's the deal with her?".
He thought a long time and finally said that she was "the most politically motivated person he'd ever known". Sez me, if a lukewarm endorsement like that is the best she can get from the people she hires to campaign for her, she's GOT to be a real dud.
NC is easily one of the most corrupt places Ive ever lived. Hardly a week went by that you didn’t hear about a pol/police being arrested, going to jail or getting out of jail. The electorate was pretty stupid, voting the same corrupt bunch in time after time. I think of it as the Nifong state.
In the really corrupt places they don't go to jail.
Lots of cockroaches scurrying around, lots of low-to-mid-level trash being taken out. He's done a lot of good work, but he's got a long row to hoe.
So, who will be her Republican opponent next year? Is s/he any good?

We have the license to rape and pillage laws and the license to loot and plunder laws when it comes to road construction.
If you bid for a contract for road construction and you win, and you come in late, you can continue to bill at your normal rate, and the maximum penalty the state can hand out is $5,000 per day. So, you could easily bill $35,000 a day and be fined $5,00 a day and wow.....
Also, for more fun, if you have a contract for 40 people to work on a project, and you have one person on site, for any length of time, you can bill for all 40. So, if you want to take 3 weeks off, you can hire 3 guys to stand for 8 hours a day in rotating shifts for those 3 weeks, holding a shovel, and doing nothing else, and get paid for all 40 of your people for those 3 weeks and only get fined $5,000 a day at max.
Also, we paid money into the highway trust fund. Enough to fund the construction of I-540 (an amazingly slow road that started construction in 1969 and currently has 29 miles completed at an average cost of $1 billion a mile). The first actual construction work that was done on it started in 1987. Now, we had enough in the highway trust fund to fund the construction of the road (had we paid the going rate for road construction) and come up with a good, functional 70 mile loop around Raleigh and the surrounding suburbs in 1995 or 1996, but current estimates place the completion time somewhere north of 2037. The current section that is being done, a 12 mile segment, from NC 55 to US 1 is a $13 billion project. Perdue’s cronies and her predecessor, Mike Sleezely.... I mean Easley’s campaign contributors, before the final path was announced, made a massive buying streak of nearly every patch of land in the project within a 22 month period. When they turned around and sold the property back to the state, it was sold sometimes as high as 21 times the original buying price 6 months earlier. Amazing how that just managed to happen. Oh, and the highway trust fund? It had been raided, so the state had no money, and decided to borrow money from the feds to make it happen. Well, of course, they can’t borrow without repaying it, so they borrowed some of the money, and received stimulus money for the rest, to construct a toll road, so we have to be taxed to get the money to lend to the state and then taxed again through a toll to pay for the loan that had we not paid off campaign contributors and slimy construction owners and raided the tax coffers to begin with, we wouldn’t have needed. So, now North Carolina will have its first toll roads opening this month.
Reading that, don’t you feel like maybe you need to get a shower to wash off some of that stink of corruption? I know I do.
Pat McCrory, former Charlotte Mayor, is the presumptive nominee (lost in 2008 to bev) and yes, he’s good.
If the pursuit and prosecution of police and political corruption ceased, then there would be no corruption?
Nevada is corrupt, Louisiana is corrupt, but practically any state with a large union presence such as Illinois puts them to shame. You hear little about it because it's not pursued legally and the media, too, is corrupt, and doesn't report it.
At least we still try to root it out. Maybe we should just sweep it all under the rug so you can feel better about it.
