Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has surged to the largest national lead held by any candidate so far in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters finds Gingrich on top with 38% of the vote. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is a distant second at 17%. No other candidate reaches double-digits.

The national survey of 1,000 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on November 30, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that the MSM has not been treating Newt like the treated Perry or Cain? I wonder why....

WOW! Thanks for the information. I could just see Newt taking Obama to the wood shed if front of 50 Million plus viewers in the debates, using exactly this kind of approach.

Newt will eviscerate Obama and I can hardly wait. Even “Orgie” might wrinkle up a smile seeing Newt do exactly that.

This verifies a couple of things. First, many Newt-haters here were saying Newt's numbers would dive after the most recent debate due to his comments on illegal immigration, just like Perry's numbers nose-dived. WRONG. Those of you who thought and wished it would happen have been exposed. The vast majority of GOP voters are intelligent enough to understand what he was saying, while you were dishonestly trying to portray his stand as open-borders amnesty, have been exposed as liars and/or simpletons unable to decipher black from white.

Secondly, Cain's support has collapse. Man Cain supporters running around here stomping their feet insisting that his supporters would NOT go to Newt. WRONG again. That is obviously why Newt's support has shot up while Cain's has dropped.

Now then, are you Newt-haters ready to grow up and join the adults in the conversation? Your choices are Newt or Romney. Or of course you can write in someone who doesn't have a chance, or you can pretend there's not an election by not voting for anyone and risk getting 4 more years of Obama.

Yep. If there’s one thing that can be said about Gingrich, is that he has mastered the art of rhetoric, and he has the best political instincts since Richard Nixon. He won’t be timid in debates either.

Romney has one other draw.

he’s not obama.

But I still won’t vote for him.

I *Might* warm up to newt. I’ll go vote. But Newt needs to win me over. His support of global warming (ya.. a mistake he says) support of single payer and amnesty plan scare the heck out of me.

If we don’t do away with the EPA (Global warming)
If we don’t do away with Obama care (single payer)
If we don’t do something about the boarder and illegals (amnesty)

We are still SCREWED.

You seem to foget in that type of society they tell people what the polls say. And they tell the people what to tell the polls. The american way is one person one vote, screw the polls.

It’s pretty clear that most conservatives, after taking a hard look at Bachmann, Perry, and then Cain, are locking in on Gingrich.

Of course, the RINOs and the old media will continue to pretend that Romney is the inevitable nominee.

I’m not a Newt fan, but the silver lining is that they won’t be able to paint our candidate as stupid this time. It has been 40 years since we’ve had a nominee that isn’t “stupid”.

I had the same thought today after hearing Newt's excellent interview with Hannity on Legal Insurrection. I think that's why Chris Matthews is preemptively calling him something like "evil."

I'm bracing myself. This year is going to be a doozy of facing icy cold headwinds in the MSM. They are going to be desperate.

Vent away...for GOP candidates sexual behavior is fair game.

For the Left anything goes.

Cain got clobbered by that and his other stumbles and will likely not recover whether one believes all the allegations or not.

I think Newt can withstand it but I’m sure I will be reminded of it if I am incorrect

over and over

and what if Romney gets it?

what do we do then?

50 folks sit and around and groan to each other in cyberspace?

PS...the issues with Clinton aside from Broderick were far far more serious than adultery and womanizing and groping....he was a pragmatic socialist

The Rasmussen poll includes independents in states where they can vote in GOP primaries.

“LIKELY GOP PRIMARY VOTERS”

Rasmussen only uses “likely” voters. The only polls to bother with other than “very likely” voters.

I saw a CBS poll that was “Adults”. What the hell is that? Only half of adults register & only half of them vote! So about 25% of eligible voters actually vote. Why do we care what the rest of the “adults” think? THEY DON’T VOTE.

Remember when the poll says “registered voters”, about HALF of those people won’t vote.

So an energized Republican electorate will trounce a demoralized Democrat electorate. Turnout is everything. What a majority of “adults” or “registered voters” say don’t mean JACK!

I think it is going to have to be Newt and it is our job to keep the pressure on him constantly to pull him to the conservative side.

We got an automated survey call from Rasmussen yesterday, (the first time we have ever heard from a major pollster) and he only mentioned one of the candidates running... yep, you guessed it... Romney. He asked who would we vote for, between Obama and Romney, and my mother chose Obama to send him a message that we will NOT vote for Romney. The rest of the questions were on Reid, Pelosi, Boehner, etc. She was able to give Obama the highest negative on another question, however, so Rasmussen will at least know that this household considers Romney as bad as Obama.

Are we supposed to ignore that as the “family values” party?

YES. Thanks to Bill Clinton, thongs, cigars, BJs, and blue dresses, all innocence is lost. A little thing like divorce shouldn’t be such a big moral deal.

[Does it strike anyone else as odd that the MSM has not been treating Newt like the treated Perry or Cain? I wonder why....]

The answer to that one is rather easy; Simply because Newt would make them look like fools when he gets interviewed for comment. They are actually rather shy when Newt stares them down right after he counters their rhetoric with sheer facts and intelligent logic.

In Newt's own words; “When Hannity asked about how he could fight Obama spending a billion dollars to smear him, his answer was it depends on your opinion of the American people, ultimately a billion dollars worth of lies is still a billion dollars of lies.”
