If we nominate Newt, we still will not have nominated a conservative since Reagan. I stand amazed at how he has managed to whitewash so much of his past and his actual record. I still wonder if a man sleeping around while impeaching a sitting president for sleeping around (in the public eye) can truly win.
Clinton was NOT impeached by Newt for sleeping around. He was impeached because he lied to Congress under oath.
Any other ignorant misconceptions I can clear up for you?
Lets be real about Reagan.
Reagan actually signed an amnesty. No verbal gymnastics or legalization. He came out and said he supports amnesty and used the word.
Reagan was in chrage of an operation that dealt arms to Khomeini. He also supported the arming and funding of Islamic radicals in Afghanistan to take down to the USSR that ended up having a lot of consequences down the road.
Reagan cut and ran from Beirut. He never finished the job with Ghadaffi. He went after Israel on a number occasions including their raid on the Iraqi reactor. He cozied up to the Saudis.
He raised taxes multiple times. He never once signed a balanced budget. He tripled the natl debt over his 8 years. He eliminated no cabinet agencies after saying he would.
He appointed 2 SC Justices who were the decisive liberal votes in the upholding of Roe v Wade, Kelo v New London, Grutter, Lawrence v Texas and every other disastrous decison of the past 25 years and have been huge disappointments t oconservatives. Not Clinton or Orbama, Reagan appointed them.
Despite all that and more he was a great President, a great leader, a cgreat conservative.
No one is 100% pure. But don’t hold Newt out as some liberal or RINO. Fiscally his record as speaker was far better than Reagan’s ever was. You can say, well, of course if Reagan had a GOP house he’d have done that, too.
The point is that Reagan for all his gifts was never able to deliver a GOP House. Newt did.
