We know who lost Egypt
Legal Insurrection ^ | 11/30/2011 | William A. Jacobson

Obama’s foolish policy of forcing Mubarak out of office precipitously without giving non-Islamist parties time to organize has resulted in Islamists achieving a sweeping victory in the first round of parliamentary elections. Strength by the Muslim Brotherhood was expected, but the extremely hard line Salafists had a very strong showing.

It seems that the Salafists and Muslim Brotherhood have won at least 65% of the vote, even though the results won't be announced until this weekend. If the military announces a smaller victory for the Islamists, expect riots on a scale that will make what has gone before seem like an OWS rally.

And who made all this possible? I think we can all guess his name.

And on a slightly related topic: Iranian thugs attacked the British embassy because the Cameron government denied the Iranian Central Bank access to the London exchanges.

My question: why hasn't Zero followed suit? Why haven't US financial institutions been forbidden to trade with the ICB?

Just wondering....

Lost? Obviously you are confusing me with someone who is on the side of freedom and democracy. Winning!

Frankly it was in America’s interest for the Army to maintain control there. It is not in our interest for radical Islamists to take over.

Obama is a GD fool

Would it be safe to assume that tourism will drop off to a large extent?

Obama a fool? Hardly.

America is under attack by the white house occupant and most fail to see it.

Of course, POTUS Barack Hussein Obama gave Egypt away to his beloved “Muslim Brotherhood”!!! Others, like Iraq, Iran, Tunisia, Yemen, Sudan, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc. will soon follow suit. This was the “Obama, the Muslim” plan to destroy the American Republic. There never was an “Arab Spring”, just a plain and simple, Obama destruction scheme to weaken the USA worldwide.....and he has succeeded quite well, while the American sheeple are asleep at the wheel. If Americans only had a clue as to what is coming, first they would become mortally frightened and second POTUS Obama would be impeached immediately for treason to the USA!!! Amazing that any sane American would even consider voting for this America/American hater, Obama!!! Sad days for America!!! Go figure!!!

I simply don’t see why the US could not have backed Mubarak for another 30 years.

Where is Clinton in all this. I have never seen a Sec. of State so invisible as her. She must be amazingly incompetent.

I don’t think Obama’s foreign policy objectives go very far beyond making the world press or maybe just the MSM happy. But consider that Egypt has only been our friend in that they haven’t made war against Israel and haven’t been a thorn in our side the way Syria and Iran have been. The reason for this is that we’ve been giving them lots of money and weapons all these years.

Maybe he's afraid the Iranians will attack the US Embassy? Oh wait....

He was getting old, and was openly trying to groom his sons to be heirs to the presidency.

To the senior officers of Egypt’s military, who had essentially controlled Egypt since 54, this was a no-no.

So when the riots started, the military stood aside.

If this doesn't defeat Obama in 2012, nothing will.

Give credit where credit is due. It took the west decades to create stability in Egypt. Now, Obama has destabilized and created an Islamist state bordering Israel in less than 3 years, and there's little doubt in the near future our Military will have to be involved.

Helluva a job Barry!

Tourism in Egypt was already in a very bad way after the ouster of Murbark. Victory of the Islamists will make it much worse if they ban alcohol at the hotels and make women wear the burka, as they have said they will do.

Further, Egpyt’s economy has collapsed and almost all of their foreign exchange reserves are gone. Those reserves are used mostly to purchase food, as Egypt imports 50% of the caloric needs of its 80 million people, and subsidizes the price of essentials like rice and bread and cooking oil. When those reserves are exhausted, as they will be within a month or two, Egypt will get very hungry, very quickly.

Sarcasm noted, and nice strawman. The premise of the article isn’t that we should have counted on having Mubarak around for another 30 years, but that it was unwise to force Mubarak out precipitously — “yesterday” in Obama’s words — before non-Islamist parties had a chance to organize.

He’s turned over the governments of the Arab nations surrounding Israel to Muslim radicals on purpose. He’s made clear that he does not consider the Muslim Brotherhood radical or a problem in any way. On the other hand, he has classified constitutionalists, gun owners, Christians, Iraqi vets, pro lifers, etc. domestic terrorists.

Rinos say nothing about it; they just march on giving the Executive Branch more and more police state power.
