MANCHESTER - Herman Cain acknowledged Thursday that he repeatedly gave Ginger White money to help her with "month-to-month bills and expenses" without telling his wife of more than 40 years.
In fact, the embattled presidential candidate said, his wife, Gloria, "did not know that we were friends until she (White) came out with this story" alleging that the two had a 13-year extramarital affair.

Cain also stated clearly for the first time that as a result of the constant controversy he has been facing, he is considering getting out of the presidential race.
Asked whether leaving the race is one of the options he is currently assessing, Cain said, “Yes, it is an option.” Regarding his decision, he said, "You will know by next week" as he takes the weekend to reassess where he stands in the campaign.

I was a McCain fan until these stories started coming out. He’s an idiot for doing what he did without his wife knowing, and an even BIGGER idiot for deciding to run for president with skeletons his big in his closet.

When the legendary Bluesman, Robert Johnson, used to travel from town to town, he would make it a point to pick the ugliest girl in town, that way he always had a place to stay wherever he was and at anytime.
Ginger White is exactly the kind of person I can see in a relationship such as this, an average woman.
That would have been a great combination.

I think youre spot on in your assessment.
I think you have to look at the candidates up there as being in one of two camps.
Half are amateurs, winging it. They’ve all at one time been given their 15 minutes. The others have clearly thought the idea of being president thoroughly.
Newt in my mind is the most equipped and experienced. Romney is young and with the energy, but Newt’s ideas and knowledge of local politics surpasses those of the others.
CAin, in my mind is finished, because the lady he helped betrayed him. He gave her money. Why? Men never give someone money, unless you receive something in return. Sorry, that’s how it is.

On November 18, 2010, Gingrich delivered a speech before the Republican Governors Association Conference in San Diego outlining 12 steps for what he called a “Replacement of the Left” strategy. In his speech, Gingrich said that the Republican election day victories of 2009 and 2010 should be followed by further victories over the next two years that would give his party a large enough majority to replace what he called an increasingly leftist political system that has dominated American politics since 1932, largely through the influence of unelected bureaucracies. According to Gingrich, the strategy would be best pursued at the local level by lawmakers and activists in all 50 states rather than relying on leaders in Washington, D.C.
So? Cain is a millionaire with the means to help other people who are financially strapped right now in this economy — women AND men. If his help to others wasn’t interfering with his ability to provide for his family, he didn’t necessarily feel that it was any big deal. There were other people he helped that he didn’t tell Gloria about, too.

I was really wanting Cain/Newt. But I can’t see Newt having the big boy pen; I just can’t put my full faith in what he says will be what he does.
15 minutes ? At least conservatives we have established will ditch everything and cravenly sell out with enough time for Newt to still implode. Thanks everyone for wasting 6 months on these idiots and allowing potential viable candidates to get off or wither on the wine.

It’s not easy throwing your hat in the ring. It takes more than having a pretty face and money.
You need to have a life long passion for what you believe. Reagan didn’t waltz in on someone else’s money. He had beliefs and acted.
None of our candidates are perfect, but we must defeat the bastard and his minions in congress now....and keep them out.
I think the VP candidate more than ever before will be important. I wish it were Sarah again for one more run.

The only explanation I have is we're a month away from the first votes that actually select delegates and we're coming very close to finding Newt Gingrich as the “last ‘not-Romney’ left standing.” As conservatives, we are very close to being out of alternatives to Romney. Gingrich looks better when 1) he's been a public figure for decades and we have good reason to believe all the scandals about him are already known, and 2) Gingrich has a valid record of real accomplishments.
I've said this many times. We have a golden opportunity to get rid of President Obama and much of the left wing of the Democratic Party. Two years ago the Tea Party virtually destroyed the Democrats in the House and ended the malaise we had since 2008. How did we, as conservative Republicans, ever get ourselves into this mess with such a weak group of candidates?

Not necessarily. The 15-20 years younger profile has been chosen by whoever is setting up this smear campaign. I can’t believe how easily people leap to conclusions based on thin-to-evidence.

I do agree this is very damaging for Cain, but I can’t agree that “men never give someone money, unless you receive something in return.”
Cain is a professing Christian and a member of a historically black church. Many of his friends and fellow church members either grew up in poverty or have family and friends who have had **SERIOUS** hard times. We can say all we want about playing the “race card” today, but there was a day when minorities did suffer from real discrimination, not made-up stuff, and somtimes lost their jobs merely because a boss didn’t like the way they looked that morning. Helping out friends via private donations has a very, very long history in the black community, and that’s not a bad thing. It might even be a very good thing when compared to many formal charity operations which have become nothing but privately run welfare offices.
A successful businessman who gives money to someone to help them out is quite believable to me, and frankly, even thousands of dollars for Herman Cain is equivalent to a few dollars for most of us. Not a big deal and not worth taking much time to consider if you’re a successful businessman.
The problem that causes for a politician is that private actions can look really, really bad when they come out in public. A politician needs to always think, “If I do this, how can my enemies use it against me?” That’s not the way a businessman needs to think — he can legitimately say, “I earned this money and I can do what I want with it.”
This, unfortunately, is a consequence of people running for office who have little prior experience in elected office.
Conservatives, and especially Tea Party people, need to think long and hard about the importance of experience. There is nothing wrong with a professional politician — getting people who know what they are doing **AND** who believe the right things is important. Experienced politicians with bad ideas are dangerous, obviously, but I’m not convinced that electing untested and unexperienced conservatives won’t cause serious problems as well by discrediting the conservative movement as a bunch of wild-eyed incompetents who have hidden skelteons.
