The Jerusalem Post reports today that the U.S. Army is considering the purchase of Israels Iron Dome short-range missile defense system to protect bases in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Iron Dome was developed in response to persistent rocket attacks by the Palestinian Hamas terror group in Gaza, and the Hizbollah terror organization in southern Lebanon, both of which target Israeli civilians.
The system was deployed in southern Israel earlier this year, and has been largely successful.

Cool!
Rockets are cheap and the system to destroy them is very costly. Knocking down a few doesn’t really protect from an all out assault. The Arabs have thousands of rockets in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza..the few that are fired now are really just H&I.
There will be no replacement for troops clearing out wide areas of the borders to protect Israel.
I don’t know how Israel is going to avoid a major war with it’s new Spring Neighbors.

So, to compare, because a bandage won’t stop the bleeding from severed limb, we should not have bandages?
Low-level missle strikes are a terrorist weapon, tactically useless, but stratigically important to wear down the target (Israel or, in this case, US troops).
The response to an all-out attack is counter-battery fire and an all-out counter-attack.
Iron Dome is the answer to low level, hit-and-run, crap when you don’t have a clear state actor.
