Newt Gingrich Co-Sponsored Fairness Doctrine Bill

The so-called Fairness Doctrine is the anti-First Amendment now unenforced Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rule which chilled free speech on the radio from its FCC creation in 1949 until the Commission voted to stop its enforcement in 1987.

The Fairness in Broadcasting Act of 1987 (H.R. 1934) sprung up immediately after this latter vote to try to turn the Doctrine into law. Then Georgia Congressman Newt Gingrich was one of its 71 co-sponsors.

I can’t for the life of me find the final vote, so I do not know if Gingrich voted for it – though it would be a might strange for someone to co-sponsor a bill and then not say Aye.

I did find a pro-Fairness Doctrine video that says the bill passed the House by a 3-1 margin – and that Gingrich voted for it.

It also passed the Senate – but President Ronald Reagan thankfully then broke out his veto pen.

The first instincts of the alleged “smartest guy in the room” when it comes to protecting liberty are generally wrong.

“1987”

Damn. In 1987 I did a lot of things I am not all that proud of either. I sure hope that I am never in a position that some political HACK can use it against me.

Let’s not MSM him - this is just another hit. Let’s hear what Newt has to say about it. Tweet him at @Newt2012HQ @newtgingrich and ask for a response/explanation

I have forgotten that one. Should have checked. Every liberal issue of our lifetime, you can find Newt there.

Global Warming
Amnesty
Free speech limitations
Individual mandate in Obamacare
Medicare reform and spending cuts

Constant attacks on conservatives (”radical right wing social engineering”, “Era of Reagan is over”, Dede in NY23), gun grabbing bills and personal baggage may be considered minor sins compared above.

I think it is time to consider Santorum. His primary support for Arlen was bad, but acceptable at that time (in comparison to the baggage of others). He is otherwise conservative. He lost by landsline in a very bad year for GOP. I wonder how he would have performed in 2010 in PA.

I think Newt’s problem is that he wants to be liked by the enemy. It seems like a common problem once a Conservative and/or Republican lands in the Beltway.

Yes, I could forgive things in 1980’s or even 1990’s.

But how do you explain away Newt in 2011 bashing conservatives and their insistence of spending restraints(”Radical rightwing social engineering”). Better be ready since this will be constantly on Obama’s TV ads.
How about Newt in 2009 bashing conservative in NY race and advocating for ultraleft Dede?

How do you explain Newt in November 2011 advocating amnesty for illegals?

How about Newt in 2009 in Global Warming scan ad with Nancy?

How about lobbying in 2005-2010 for housing bubble/health care companies and then trying to convince conservatives to support these?

Sorry ! He has NOT been accused by a wacko of being a bad man - he must be the President !

No past legislative history matters in selecting a President.

The only qualification that matters is no wacko has stepped forward and accused him of being a bad man.

Next !

94% Conservative Rating as congressman.

That was then (90s) this is now (2011). In between then and now Newt has done the following:

1. Global Warming
2. TARP
3. Limited Amnesty
4. Individual Mandate
5. Comprehensive Immigration Reform
6. Scozzafazza
7. Called Ryan's plan "Right-wing social engineering"
8. "The Era of Reagan is Over"

So he hasn't, apparently, held on to his conservative values, but abandoned them.

Tweet him at @Newt2012HQ @newtgingrich and ask for a response/explanation
____________________________________________________________

While you’re at it ask him about these:

Why in 2009-2010 he traveled around with Al Sharpton and Arne Duncan to promote President Obama’s new educational policies: i.e. increased local control of schools with increased Federal subsidies and regulations from Washington.

Why in 2010 he supported ultra-liberal, pro-abortion, pro-union, establishment candidate Dede Scozzafava in New York’s 23rd Congressional District in a special election, over conservative candidate Doug Hoffman.

Why in March 2011 he said that NAFTA worked because it created jobs in Mexico.

Why in January, 2011 He lobbied for ethanol subsidies.
and suggested that flex-fuel vehicles be mandated for Americans.

“But how do you explain away Newt in 2011”

I excuse NOTHING that he has done in recent years and will not forget them. I am not saying vote for the man, I am saying if this gets down to a two man race between Newt and Romney?

It’s a no-brainer you vote for Newt.

Please remember that this was pre-cable TV, pre-talk radio, pre-internet.
Every media news source was LIBERAL.

He was concerned about the future of conservatism as there was virtually no way to get the conservative message out.

That's just the problem.

Too many cheerleaders on FreeRepublic just want us to ignore everything Liberal/Moderate he has done recently and just listen to his words right now.

That is no way to build up trust in a candidate.
