Confusion clouds Education Ministry notices on radiation levels in school lunches
A radiation contamination guideline of 40 becquerels per kilogram that the government introduced in connection with school lunches was actually meant for selecting radiation measuring equipment, the ministry has announced.
On Nov. 30, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology sent 17 prefectures notices that could be interpreted as stating that the limit for radiation in ingredients for school-provided lunches was 40 becquerels per kilogram, and in a news conference on Dec. 1, Senior Vice Minister Yuko Mori confirmed this. On Dec. 2, however, Minister Masaharu Nakagawa explained that the figure was actually a guideline for selecting radiation meters.

Lots of confusion with statements that travel through the Japanese government. Apparently now the story is that reactor #2 did not experience the explosion that it was reported to experience. It was actually the reactor #4 explosion which was not reported that workers on site mistook for a reactor #2 explosion. Also, apparently the pressure sensor in the reactor #2 suppression chamber failed at that exact same instant and displayed sea level atmosphere. That was just a coincidence and not indicative of the explosion the workers mistook.

Looks like they have two hydrogen burn-off flames going tonight. One to the right of reactor #4 and another on the right side of reactor #3. Perhaps we are just overreacting. I am sure a Japanese spokesman will come out and state that these are just celebration flames for the upcoming Cold Shutdown parade and festival. Later.

Perhaps they will be turned into eternal flames for the unknown nuclear worker.

Ooops. Japanese spokesman should read Japanese Government spokesman.

It is a curios pattern that they announce something dire, which they have had ample time to investigate, only to retract or correct it only a few days later. Gross negligence or ham-handed efforts to contain information leak?

Flames and smoke have been coming on and off for months. I saw some smoke coming out at night via their webcam. They say it is nothing serious, but I am deeply suspicious.

Gross negligence or ham-handed efforts to contain information leak? Probably a little of both.
