Cuccinelli says he will run
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | December 2, 2011

Ending months of speculation, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said Thursday that he will run for governor in 2013. The decision — unveiled in an email to employees of his office and confirmed by top deputies — sets up a potential contested GOP gubernatorial primary battle with Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who stepped aside and ran for a second term in 2009 to make way for then-Attorney General Bob McDonnell's successful run for governor.

"Although I originally expected to serve as attorney general for another term, my job is that of public servant, and I feel that two years from now, I can best serve the people of Virginia from the governor's office," Cuccinelli said in the letter.

He said he does not plan to resign as attorney general while he runs for governor.

Bolling released a statement Thursday night saying he was "very disappointed" with Cuccinelli's decision to run for governor, despite previous suggestions by Cuccinelli that he instead would run for re-election as attorney general....

The former state senator from Northern Virginia was elected attorney general in 2009 as part of a Republican sweep of statewide offices. n less than two years, the 43-year-old father of seven has become a darling of the GOP's right wing and the tea party movement, shooting to national prominence with high-profile lawsuits challenging the power of the federal government in areas such as health care and environmental regulation....

I have nothing against Bolling, but Cuccinelli already has my vote for any elective office he chooses to pursue: he is a conservative's dream.

Ken Cuccinelli would be great as Gov of the Commonwealth!!! Of course it will be a rough road; as Lt Gov Bolling will have McDonnell's and other state GOP insiders’ machine backing

Why won’t McDonnell run for a 2nd term?

VA governors are term limited. They may not run for consecutive terms, but they may run for an unlimited number of terms (go they can come back term-after-next).

He can’t run for governor again in 2013. He has been an excellent manager/executive. He has endorsed George Allen the Senate seat Jim Webb is vacating. So I am hoping that means he is going to serve out his term and then run against the truly disgusting Mark Warner in 2014. They are also talking about him for VP. McDonnell is another conservative’s dream candidate. Wiki has a halfway decent article on him. We are so lucky to have both of these men representing us as conservatives.

Charles H. (The_r0nin) has provided the reply. Thank you, Charles. He is term limited. How nice! I like that he can run for multiple terms, albeit not consecutively.

I am not sure of the ‘exact’ statement but I thought when Cuccinelli decided to run for Atty General he said higher office was not in his future - I don’t think Bolling would have run for #2 if he thought he would get a serious challenge from his own party.
I would vote for Cuccinelli though, just kind of questioning his ‘tactics’.

I don’t remember him saying that when he announced he was running for attorney general. That’s not to say he didn’t say it, just that I don’t recall him saying it. All I remember him saying is that he wouldn’t run for Webb’s seat.

I think the ‘deal’ was Bolling would ‘let’ McDonnell run and Cuccinelli made the ‘pol speak’ I am not interested in running for Governor, there is to much work to be done as Atty Gen....I (kind of) recall my thinking that was somewhat a ‘slap in the face’ of then AG - McDonnell.
Or something like that - any of the three are hands down better than what the D’s can offer.
I notice yesterday that MorOn’s brother, who is ‘head’ of the D party in VA had some lame comment about Cuccinelli - he shares the ability to incoherently run his mouth with his idiot brother.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
After re-reading this, I believe that is what I am thinking about...he ‘promised’ to fulfill the term because there was a lot of work to be done -— ‘Dumping BO Care’....

thanks.

Both Ken Cuccinelli and Bill Bolling are good guys. Ken is the stronger candidate, by far. He outpolled Bolling by 17,000 votes in the 2009 general election. His fight against Obamacare and against suspect taxpayer-funded research FOR Global Warming at UVA show his conservative credentials well.

We have a primary process to let us pick our favorite in 2013 but Ken Cuccinelli is clearly the stronger pick we will need to take on the Democrat challenger.
