Judge blocks union vote for child care providers(MN)

ST. PAUL, Minn.—A Ramsey County judge on Monday blocked a unionization vote by Minnesota child care workers that was to get under way this week, saying the issue must go through the state Legislature. Attorneys for the plaintiffs argued that the Democratic governor exceeded his powers with the executive order setting up the election.

"If unionization of day care is to become the law of Minnesota, it must first be submitted to the lawmaking body of the state," Judge Dale Lindman said after hearing three hours of testimony.

Lindman also said he was "bothered" that less than half of the state's 11,000 in-home child care workers were eligible to vote in the election. Eligibility was extended to about 4,300 providers who are currently licensed to receive state subsidies to care for low-income children.

Ballots were to be mailed out starting Tuesday and would have been tallied on Dec. 22.

Excellent!!

That means that the union has already spent the money to print the ballots, bought the envelopes, addressed them and most like has already affixed postage.

All wasted money that they can not spend on the coming election!!!

For non-Minnesotans, the Minnesota house and senate are GOP controlled.

This is great news! I can’t wait to listen to Tom Emmer and Bob Davis tomorrow. They’ve been all over this issue as I’m sure you know.

Dayton with his googly eyes already looks like a walking pharmaceutical cabinet. Do we have enough drugs in Minnesota to medicate him? :)

Proponents argued that providers who operate in part on state subsidies had the right to organize and bargain with state agencies over subsidy rates as well as other rules and regulations governing in home care.

Why should people working for themselves want, need or have right to have a union bargaining for them with a government? They do not work for the government. They may receive government money by way of some social welfare program but how does that equate to their employment by the government?

These child care workers are small business owners. If they find the constraints imposed by the government to be too burdensome or money offered by the government too meager they are at liberty to refuse their services to those on the government program.

If the childcare business owners wish to bargain with the government to change the social welfare programs they would be better off starting a trade organization. They would likely pay less money and get better service.

Finally, some sanity where this issue is concerned. If this was allowed to go through, there would technically be no limits on who could be immunized (if you received even 1 penny of government money).

Frightening stuff, and the SEIU almost pulled it off!

This is very, very good news.

That means that the union has already spent the money to print the ballots, bought the envelopes, addressed them and most like has already affixed postage.

And an extra, added bonus: the post office needs the revenue without the costs of delivering the ballots!

I love how Marx Dayton (great name) thinks he can make BUSINESS OWNERS join a union. Liberal folly at its finest.
