The iced-in city of Nome on Alaska's western coast may be in luck: A Russian tanker that can plow through thick ice will try to deliver 1.5 million gallons of home heating fuel, gasoline and diesel fuel after a massive storm kept a barge from getting in before winter.

Without this, they are looking at $9 per gallon fuel.

The big storm last month prevented the usual fuel barge from landing.

Strangely, a US Coast Guard icebreaker is nearby.

And the problem with this would be???

"Somehow we have to figure
out how to boost the price of
gasoline to the [$8-$10/gal]
levels in Europe." - Barrack Obama's
Energy Secretary Steve Chu. Had enough yet???

So they’ll really be able to see Russia from their front porch.

How can this be so? I keep hearing about how the icecaps are retreating due to the “global warming”.

The Russians take a lot of pride in their icebreakers. Anyone else remember when they broke the stranded whales free a couple of decades ago?

I enjoyed a dinner a few years back with a great guy - a retired Coast Guard Antarctic icebreaker Captain. After getting his advice, I quickly learned to love “icebergs and sunshine.” There’s nothing like it.

What can you say. The Russians take this stuff serious. If the US isn’t up to it, more power to the Russians.

In the end, we’ll need them to help offset the Chinese, a country that means BUSINESS and is not about to let the US make them look like crap.

Let’s use the precise spelling:

“Egermency! Egermency! Everybody to get from street!”

We need to bum rides from the Russkies to get back and forth to the space station.

We need to rely on the Russkies to deliver fuel to Nome.

Why do we need a congress and president who cost us trillions of dollars every year but can’t get anything positive done?

Ummm... Why don’t they stock up for the winter in Nome? Were they betting on global warming?

Seriously, isn’t ice expected?

They don’t need heating oil, just air conditioning because of global warming. Because Al Gore couldn’t be lying.

Get Balto and the dogsleds going. Gee if Nome is iced in for the winter, they might need dogsleds.
