I grew up in Tacoma, and to be fair there are some very beautiful areas in Tacoma's North End with beautiful Victorian homes with views that rival many other places on the Sound. But the city has changed very little since I was born there 53 years ago. Tacoma has always been an awful place to find employment, which is why I don't live their today.
Now for the ugly side of Tacoma, pretty much everything south of 6th Ave, all the way down to Joint Base Lewis McChord. There is a reason COPS TV show chooses that area frequently.

Yep! The “COPS” TV show has aired many segments from the Parkland area where P.L.U. is located. Many of the scenes have taken place within a mile of the campus. No doubt this has probably skewed my perception of Tacoma in general.
