A woman in the border city of Laredo, Texas who was angry because she had been denied food stamps killed herself and shot and critically wounded her two children late on Monday.
The woman, whom he declined to identify, pulled out a handgun and started walking through the office, threatening several employees, he said.
She took an office supervisor hostage in a room in the office.
After two hours of negotiations, the woman allowed the male supervisor to go free, but she remained in the office with her two children, a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.
"About 11:45 last night, she hung up the phone with negotiators, and a little bit later, negotiators heard three shots, what had happened was that she had shot each of her children once and herself once."
The children were airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio in extremely critical condition. The mother was dead at the scene.
The woman, who was from Ohio, arrived in Laredo about eight months ago and had lived with her children in several locations around the city.
"We're still trying to track down exactly what happened with the case. As you can probably imagine, I think she had a lot of other issues she was dealing with as well."
She also said the commission will look at what it needs to do to ensure its offices are safe for staff and the public. She said there was an unarmed security guard on duty on Monday at the Laredo office, where Texans can go to apply for food stamps and other programs.
"This is the kind of thing you hear of happening in other places, but not in our quiet home town," Baeza said.

Liberal whack job from Ohio.
Where’s the father? Sad for the children, too many end up with an abusive, and potentially murderous parent.
Simple. Just put up "No Guns Allowed" signs like they do at post offices and other gov. buildings. That should take care of it.
I asked “Where’s the father?” meaning, if there is a father, why isn’t he paying for his children to eat and not the taxpayers. Was he a criminal, dead, a deadbeat, or did this woman even know who he was, I wonder what combination of the above. Though, that having been said, he’s not responsible for this whacko woman’s behavior.
That is sad. I imaging that those poor children may never fully recover. Thank God (literally), that children are given an enormous capacity to survive and heal. I hope these two do.
Please ignore my typos, apparently, I cannot type today.
I expect to see a lot more of this type of behavior in the coming months and years.
Who would move to Laredo, was this woman an illegal alien with a couple of anchor children?
Meet your new Liberal heroine, folks.
This fits RIGHT IN TO THE NARRATIVE.
By next week, the lib media will have painted this woman as some kind of hero. WATCH AND LEARN.
The woman, whom he declined to identify, pulled out a handgun and started walking through the office, threatening several employees, he said."
I am looking forward to her being identified. The story is crap without her identity.
Pray for her kids. I hope they’ll survive.
Damn! If only she could have held out until Husseins 2nd term then she could have had a new kitchen, a new Volt, and never have to worry about money again!
They’ll certainly paint her as a victim.
Pray for her kids. I hope they’ll survive.
Because she would've burned to death?
I’ll give you 10 to 1 odds that she is of an ethnicity which it isn’t politically correct to identify in cases of this nature.
Who would move to Laredo
_______________
That’s what I was thinking. What a h*ll hole.
‘Quiet home town’- as one citizen said?
Laredo has been the scene of many drug related murders and violence.
