Nancy Pelosi provides Newt Gingrich ethics report
SFGate: Politics Blog ^ | 12/6/11 | Carolyn Lochhead, Chronicle Washington Bureau

Posted on 12/06/2011 12:44:44 PM PST by SmithL

In case you haven’t been watching cable TV, two former House Speakers named Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich are having a bit of a fracas related to all that Gingrich baggage about which GOP primary voters in Iowa appear to be blissfully ignorant.

Pelosi, the San Francisco Democrat and now House minority leader, promised to release records that are public but haven’t seen much sunshine lately about the congressional ethics investigation of Gingrich back in the day.

Gingrich said that would be foul play and promised to retaliate, claiming Pelosi was threatening to disclose non-public information. But Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said Pelosi was “clearly referring to the extensive amount of information that is in the public record, including the comprehensive committee report with which the public may not be fully aware.”

Hammill helpfully provided public links and we provide them here.

Here’s the 1280 pages of the Ethics Committee report.

In a thumbnail, Congress accepted the committee report, which found that Gingrich used tax exempt contributions for political purposes and then attempted to mislead the Ethics Committee about it. Pelosi sat on the Ethics Committee at the time, so has vivid knowledge of the whole business.

Does it also say that the IRS later cleared him?

Unless I missed it, they seem to conveniently forget the part where the charges were deemed bogus.

Too bad it’s so long, but then again it took lots of political contortions to reach their “conclusion”. It reads like documentation of a completely partisan witch hunt. At no point does it appear that Newt did anything approaching the behavior of the then Clintoon administration and certainly nothing akin to what this Administration is currently doing.

“Gingrich used tax exempt contributions for political purposes and then attempted to mislead the Ethics Committee about it.”

Newt needs to publish the IRS ruling that stated his use of tax exempt contributions was a textbook example of how the law was intended to be used.

claiming Pelosi was threatening to disclose non-public information

Newt "claimed" that because that's exactly what Pelosi threatened to do.

Leave it this Dem mouthpiece rag to be the only outlet pretending to believe Pelosi's later backtracking.

How exactly would Pelosi "threaten to release" information that's already public?

Like I said yesterday on another thread, Pelosi Galore is going to release old information as "new", and the Democrat-Media Complex is going to go right along with her scheme.

The only problem is that she jumped the gun. She was supposed to wait until after Newt got the nomination to do this.

Considering the speed with with Nanny Pelosi fled from her first statement, I’d say that she took Newt at his word. SFGate is just shoveling a bunch of manure on top to hide the wreckage.

"The only problem is that she jumped the gun. She was supposed to wait until after Newt got the nomination to do this."

Unless...they know Obama can't win, and they can't run against him....so they need a democrat to win as a Republican.

So the democrats need to discredit all candidates except Romney, because President Romney is the only way they keep a rat in the White House.

My old man used to say you don't get into a pi$$ing contest with a skunk. The application of that sage advice to this situation creates something of a conundrum...

Gingrich should surrender his principles and do a global warming commercial with a prominent Democrat so that liberals will like him. Oh wait... never mind.
