Trump Joins Gingrich in Call to Put Poor Kids to Work
AFL-CIO ^ | Dec 6, 2011 | Mike Hall

Posted on 12/06/2011 1:19:39 PM PST by mdittmar

Newt Gingrich, who says child labor laws are “truly stupid” and wants to put low-income children in poor neighborhoods to work cleaning schools after he fires “all the unionized janitors,” has found an acolyte—Donald Trump.

Billionaire Trump—who most Republican presidential candidates are genuflecting before in hopes of a laying on of hands—endorsed Gingrich’s call to put poor kids to work. He told reporters, “I thought it was a good idea” and suggested they also work for him–as “apprenti.”

Gingrich apparently thinks all poor kids are lazy and says his plan will “get them into the habit of showing up and realizing that effort gets rewarded and that America is all about the work ethic.”

Last week he also inferred that low income-kids are crooks. He said “They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash,’ unless it’s illegal.”

Start by deporting ALL the illegals, thus creating job openings.

The AFL-CIO will be on board if they promise to unionize them.

They're missing the trick.

The real problem for teenage labor in the last 30 years has been competition from illegal aliens.

Prior to 1980 you did not see 40 year old Mexican males taking orders at McDonalds: they were all teenagers.

Which is what an entry level job like that SHOULD have, not illiterate adults from the highlands of Oaxaca.

Get rid of the illegals and jobs for kids will open up, and you won't even have to talk about unionized janitors.

When I was in Junior High in Jersey, kids could take 1 hr jobs washing dishes after lunch, or helping to clean up after school, sweeping hallways, etc.

They were awarded based on income, with the poorer kids getting first crack at them.

Then, the UNION came in.....

The AFL-CIO prefers the Obama plan... in which every person under 30 will be unemployed.

Where is it exactly that one can find the exact quote of either Gingrich or Trump? This has to be a lie posited by the libs to savage both Gingrich and Trump. I want to view the video of either one or both of these men saying what is being claimed they said.

The only political entity worse than unions is big government.

Great. Gingrich is trying to convince people he’s a Dickens villain.

The union issue is they don't want anyone getting familiar with any sort of work where there are unionized workers.

Its going to take a generation to get America’s teenagers back to work.

I recently talked to the daughter of the farmer I used to work for as a kid. She said they can’t even get local kids to do the field work for $12 an hour under the table.

If I weren’t 50 years old and half crippled, I’d be there at 5AM tomorrow morning.

With me it was picking rocks and baling hay feeding calves etc.

My earliest memories of my uncles was seeing them come home from the Christmas tree farm smelling like a forest. My mother is the oldest daughter and I remember most of my aunts and uncles as teenagers.

Where is the money to pay the these kids going to come from? You ever see our 'youth' at work on those 'summer jobs'? Six to ten kids with reflective vests milling around with stab sticks, rakes or brooms working a patch the size of your tomato garden, with a disinterested supervisor whose only concern is that no one pokes an eye out.

P.S. Good luck with the janitors' union. I do believe, at least at one time, the most remunerative (in terms of yearly earnings with OT) public service job in NYC school is/was janitors, who, by the way, have more control over access to school property than the headmaster/principal. No janitor on duty, no access to the facility.

40 years ago there was an Arthur Hailey novel, WHEELS, about the automaking business. The owners solved the problem of no-show workers by issuing an alarm clock to all of their young, first-time employees, as the kids had no idea about how to wake-up in time for work.

First of all, Newt did not say all poor kids are lazy. Secondly, he did not “infer” that poor kids are crooks. The only ones here that “inferred” or iplied anything are the writers of this poop (gor lack of a better word). I had no idea the leaders of the AFL-CIO were such talented mind readers.

Thats where the Newt plan crashes and burns. He’s all about making sure the ‘Mexicans’ can stay and soak the jobs up.

Speaking of illegals....I think the jobs problem has diverted attention from the bigger problem. That bigger problem is security. In addition to the drug runners there are OTMs. The last time I checked the OTM count was an estimated 30% of all border crossings. That means there are millions of them in this country and we know not why. I’d say a goodly portion aren’t here for low paying jobs. What are they doing and what did they haul across the border? When the problem comes to a head it will dwarf the ‘Mexicans taking jobs’ issue. I think any of our enemies w/ half a brain has been pumping operatives over our borders for years now. If they haven’t they’re cosmically inept.

Re. my last comment. The ‘summer jobs’ I referred to earlier are actually the worst possible introduction that one can use in introducing our ‘ute’ to work or laboring. It is a graduate course in goofing off. The worst that can be done to these kids.

True, but the liability for hiring a kid now is to much.

I grew up working on the farm. It is illegal to do that now.
