Rick Perry Says Human Rights for Gays ‘Not in America’s Interests’
ABC ^ | December 6, 2011 | Arlette Saenz

Posted on 12/06/2011 1:41:04 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said today that using foreign aid to combat human rights abuses against homosexuals in foreign countries is “not in America’s interests” and attacked President Obama’s decision to require U.S. agencies operating abroad to promote equal rights for gays as part of the administration’s “war on traditional American values.”

“Just when you thought Barack Obama couldn’t get any more out of touch with America’s values, AP reports his administration wants to make foreign aid decisions based on gay rights. This administration’s war on traditional American values must stop,” Perry said in the statement. “Promoting special rights for gays in foreign countries is not in America’s interests and not worth a dime of taxpayers’ money.”

Perry moved beyond the national security implications of the decision and honed in on what he deemed to be an attack on “traditional American values.”

“But there is a troubling trend here beyond the national security nonsense inherent in this silly idea,” he said. “This is just the most recent example of an administration at war with people of faith in this country. Investing tax dollars promoting a lifestyle many [Americans] of faith find so deeply objectionable is wrong. President Obama has again mistaken America’s tolerance for different lifestyles with an endorsement of those lifestyles. I will not make that mistake.”

Ther should be NO foreign aid to any country unless there is a clear benefit to the United States in doing so. Disaster aid should be by donation only.

Thank you both for praying for us. I can barely walk now, so it’s needed!

Way to go, ABC! So opposing this new practice of making foreign aid dependent on the acceptance of sodomy is denying human rights. No bias there!

Wow, that is the most unconscionable, malignant and grotesquely unjust attempt at erasing a person's opinions I think I've ever read. To then end it with a pretended affirmation of personal support twists it into a hell realm of deranged viciousness. Your tagline is perfect for you.

She is one of the nastiest posters on FR.

And she has no clue that most of us are too intelligent to fall for the silly games she plays.

I honestly hope she does get help. She is seriously messed up. All that anger and spite can't be good for anybody.

The question is if the race boils down to Romney, Newt, and Perry... who do you find the more conservative?

‘Cause that’s what I’m seeing for primaries. Bachmann, Santorum, and Huntsman aren’t going to amount to a hill of beans.

And any conservative worth his salt is going to dismiss Romney, leaving the field down to Newt or Perry.

I find that Perry is, at the very least, actually talking about reducing the size and scope of the federal government, unlike Newt.

And both of them have the same views on immigration, so it’s a wash.

Texas has a very weak governorship, which was part of the problem with Dubya.

That gives new meaning to "STRETCH of the imagination."

>> Wait a minute, I thought that Rick Perry was opposed to all foreign aid except aid the US provides to Israel.

He’s opposed to granting dollars without evidence of reciprocity which he stated includes aid to Israel. He’s made that abundantly clear on the campaign trail.

I suspect you’re not pleased with Perry’s dismissal of the rainbow colored flag used to garner politically correct pity.

Your statement was about illegal parasites sucking “our” economy dry. The drama of it all! The how and why of this legislation has been explained over and over again on FR and can also be found on the web. I’m sure you’ve seen the background, but you choose to ignore the facts. This was a decision made by the citizens and legislature of Texas. The legislation passed by such an overwhelming majority it was veto proof. If you don’t live in Texas it’s not really your concern. I get you don’t like Perry, I don’t get why you want to twist facts.

He has no problem coddling illegals but he calls out Mr. Obama for coddling homosexuals?

That's a ridiculous and dishonest statement.

So Texas doesn’t give in-state tuition to illegal aliens? When did that change? And they don’t have sanctuary cities?

So Texas doesn’t give in-state tuition to illegal aliens?

As decreed by the Texas stae legislature with only 3 dissenting votes. Rick Perry signed that bill AFTER it overwhelmingly passed both houses. But you probably didn't know that , right? You probably thought he was King of Texas and just decided all by himself the week before he announced to run for President that he was going to make that law. Right?

It is when the governor of said state is auditioning for the position of president of the United States. What he does is definitely our business.

Texas does not give tuition, in-state or otherwise, to anyone. Period. Everyone pays their own tuition. Period.

The governor of said state is a strong states rights supporter. That means that he believes in less Federal power over the states and the people. He believes in a smaller Federal Government.

“I suspect you’re not pleased with Perry’s dismissal of the rainbow colored flag used to garner politically correct pity.”

I am not a big advocate for foregin aid to most countries and do not believe that we should be giving our tax dollars to regimes who imprison, brutalize or kill people that are perceived to be gay.

If you are such an advocate for such regimes, you can write them a check, but the American tax payer should not be providing cash to such regimes.

So Texas doesn’t charge in-state tuition (a huge discount vs. out-of-state) to illegal aliens? Pull the other one, it’s got bells on it!
