WASHINGTON (AP) A Senate panel has voted to subpoena former Sen. Jon Corzine to testify about his role leading MF Global.
The trading firm filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 31 after a disastrous bet on European debt. Nearly $1.2 billion is estimated to be missing from customer accounts.
Sen. Debbie Stabenow, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, said Corzine's testimony at the Dec. 13 hearing is essential to learn what happened. The vote comes just days after the House Agriculture Committee took similar action to force Corzine to appear at a hearing Thursday.
Corzine, a Democrat, represented New Jersey in the Senate from 2001 to 2005. He later served as the state's governor. It marks the first time a member of Congress has been forced to testify before his former peers since 1908.

The Democrats want to insulate this pig from hearing in the House so they will pre-empt House hearing. How did this concern agriculture that would give the Agriculture Committee concerns?
This is a good move. It’s gonna be more fun than a barrel of monkeys to see this slimeball (who’s a real good buddy of Mr. Obama) plead the 5th fourteen hundred bizzalion times in front of live TV cameras. Even the alphabet networks and bird-cage-liner press will be forced to make a brief mention of the event.
If he’d been dealing with the same customers as Maddoff.....he’d be facing charges and heading to jail, you don’t fuck over the powerful the way he did.Even if those guys
are complete idiots for lending to you the money in the first place.
I've so little confidence in that....that I'd bet you a lot of money, that Jon Corzine doesn't see a day in jail.
He's got insulation, he's got an ex-POTUS's protection.
He's got the current POTUS's protection.
Hell he's got half of both House's of Congress protection.
He's GOLDEN!!
Why isn't he swinging from a rope around is neck?
For some reason I still hate Clinton more than Obama. Force of habit?
To each his own. Both are repulsive, to be sure.
CC positively rots when it comes to firearm rights. Although, in his defense, he DID pardon that gentleman earlier in the year who was unjustly busted and thrown in jail for merely transporting firearms while moving.
But that single act of common sense is a long, long way from supporting NJ gun owners.
But he may be the best Jersey can do right now...Lonegan would have been better, but...
I am listening to this now.
