President Barack Obama on Tuesday laid out his economic philosophy, saying that banks, businesses and government must help the middle class get back on its feet.
“This is the defining issue of our time. This is a make or break moment for the middle class,” Obama said in a speech in Osawatomie, Kansas.
The town, about 60 miles southwest of Kansas City, was chosen for the speech because President Theodore Roosevelt delivered a famous economic address calling for economic regulation social justice in Osawatomie in 1910, according to the White House. Read Roosevelt’s speech.
Obama blamed the financial crisis and subsequent recession on a philosophy that left everyone to fend for themselves. “We simply cannot return to this brand of you’re-on-your-own economics if we’re serious about rebuilding the middle class in this country,” he said.
The president also said there is a “deficit of trust” between Main Street and Wall Street, and that big banks must “go the extra mile” to close it.

Zer0 is actively trying to kill small business, including community banks. Compliance costs were already onerous for community banks BEFORE he took office, and he and Dodd-Frank have made it far worse. The concentration of banking assets that put us at risk pre-2008, I predict, will become far worse in the next few years because so many community banks will throw in the towel and sell out. He is doing it to small businesses of other kinds, too. The rank and file union members are not going to like the world they are helping this tyrant build when they actually see what it will look like . . . IMHO.

Really want to get bored? Read Teddy’s speech. The fact obambi is making this speech in Kansas is part of the whole continuing progressive/marxist dialectic. McCain was Teddy, now obama is trying to be.... even more progressive. What absolute horsecrap in obama’s spew— which of course, he doesn’t believe a word of it.
There is no middle class because he is perpetuating govt. suppression of employment, through false energy policy, crony capitalism with fraudulent use of govt. funds (solyndra et al), elimination of the small businesses that employ 70% of the middle class and are their businesses, and re-distribution of the money earned by the working middle class to those who are not middle class and who do not work-— or ever intend to.
The SEIU and ACORN are NOT the middle class, and he cannot define them as that. This is total bob and weave and head fake.
I thought the Great Recession started when Fannie Mae noticed that the bad credit risks it was obligated to underwrite mortgages for were defaulting too frequently, and nobody would buy the instruments anymore, so banks stopped lending. Where do “you’re on your own” economics fit into that? How does one “build” a middle class? How does one “rebuild it” after actively destroying it?
This whole "I'm TR and I'm here in Kansas" thing is an insult, one that can only fly in the face of an ignorant or cooperative press.
Dare I mention the location of the park, John Brown Park? I realize history has treated him gently, but he was a domestic terrorist in todays jargon. Murdered folk in the middle of the night based on their political views. Tried to overthrow the government, but was stopped by RE Lee and the Marines. But a far more successfull terrorist that Presidential pal Bill Ayers. I guess I understand the location.
In other words, Obama hasn’t quite broken us yet.

Thursday is a day to be on our toes. I think obama means to break the middle class as someone said above— get those “rich peasant” kulaks, what remains of family farms and those of us subsisting in the country off the grid. First the food (commodities) then the guns.
