Why a Newt Gingrich Candidacy Would Doom the Tea Party
The Altantic ^ | 120611 | Conor Friedersdorf

Posted on 12/06/2011 7:35:10 PM PST by Fred

Gallup finds that 82 percent of Tea Party affiliated voters deem Newt Gingrich an acceptable Republican presidential nominee in 2012. They don't seem to realize that if he wins the nod their movement is doomed, regardless of how the general election goes. The Tea Party cannot support Gingrich without betraying its core principles. But the movement also cannot disclaim him once he is the Republican nominee.

Tea Partiers with a better instinct for self-preservation would see that none of the Mitt Romney alternatives still running would be as corrosive to their cause as the former Speaker of the House.

Why?

The Tea Party wasn't just a reaction to President Obama or the financial industry bailouts. As Jonah Goldberg puts it, "a major motivating passion of the tea-party movement was a long-delayed backlash against George W. Bush and his big-government conservatism." Support for the War on Terrorism and the invasion of Iraq caused many conservatives to stay loyal to Bush. But that didn't mean they liked No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, the attempt at a guest worker program, TARP, or the Harriet Miers nomination. Especially after the defeat of John McCain, many on the right insisted they'd never again support Bush-Rove conservatism.

Whose Mitt? I totally agree. LOL I’m voting for Gov Perry but we do have some great Pro life candidates. Santorum and Bachman. Not sure how deeply Gingrich feels about being pro life. Just pray for the best one to win.

If the only REAL choice is between Newt and Mitt, I believe Newt would be much more acceptable to the Tea Party. No, he’s not perfect, but sadly, we don’t live in a perfect world. This is politics, and in order to keep this country from four more years of Obama, many Tea Partiers will hold their noses another time.

The Blue Bloods who run the Republican Party may shove another RINO down our throats but I hope this will galvanize the Tea Party to even more action and turn Congress into a bastion of conservatism that will basically force a RINO President to do the right thing.

No matter what people think of Newt we still need to go to the polls and vote real conservatives into Congress.

Gingrich can COMMUNICATE over the din of media hate and ridicule. McCain could not/would not even try to.

by the time the general election rolls around the Democrats will have made Gingrich’s baggage look like a freight train and Obama will walk into the WH - again.

He wasn’t doing much “Nurturing” when Doug Hoffman, the first unofficial tea Party Candidate, who could have won, got abandoned by the Grinch and the GOP Establishment.

The Grinch is a phony.

Fred...we all know your candidate isn’t Newt...how about comparing your candidate to Newt and lets have a debate instead of just posting articles? Up for the challenge?

Bachmann is the answer. She has principle. Newt has none, nada, ZERO!

Newt would sell his soul to the devil if that is what it takes to satisfy his political ego. FUNEWT, you self serving secular internationalist POS.

Yea, that’s right Neutered. I’ve read your foreword in Toffler’s socialistic book. Take a hike socialist. America will never become a socialist aka commie homeland. We will re-establish freedom. We will re-establish adherence to our US Constitution.

If this POS self serving secular internationalist is our only hope to defeat Obama, then the battle to peacefully restore America has been lost, already.

Go Michelle Bachmann. You are our last hope to save America from communism.

Note 1: Karl Marx defines socialism and communism as one and the same.

Note 2: Newt seldom, if ever, refers to the US Constitution.

Here’s your sign.

“A repentant sinner is as American as apple pie. Newt all the way.”

I think Newt is a more moral person now than he was, but Bush 43 was a moral person (probably more moral), but Bush was too moderate for me, and I think Newt is Bush lite.

Newt does too many “moderate” things like supporting RINO Dede Scozzafava in NY.

“We want someone to clearly articulate common sense.

No other Republican since Ronald Reagan had that talent!!!”

Newt’s a good debater, but the fleeting thoughts that pop in his head might do him in when he feels he has to say them out loud without thinking it through first.

For instance, why did he bring up about children working? Most people aren’t even thinking about that issue, so why alienate some people?

States Doug Hoffman, who recently remarked about Newt’s endorsement of his rival,.....

“I would advise other conservative republicans...” Don’t hold this against him.”

Considering Hoffman says not to hold it against Newt..I would guess if the man Newt voted against can say that then it needs to fall to the wayside.

Oh pulleze...The thing I’m having trouble understanding about this article is how Tea Party enthusiasts are enthused with the ultimate Washington Insider, and worse yet, a big government “CONservative!” A man who inCONsistently slides from gunnel to gunnel like one of the loosest cannons in naval history!!!

Fear and panic is keeping them from supporting at least two other righteous conservatives still in the hunt. What a serious shame!!!

It’s just like the shameful end of the most historic recall election in California’s history which gave us a worse Repub governor than Dip-wad Democrat Gray Davis! History, repeating it’self to the detriment of the whole nation this time. Breathtaking!!!

These damned RINO’s are NOT authentic conservatives, yet we let our fears overcome our better judgement and jump on a really dumb bandwagon!!!

Ok, flame away! I haven’t been properly roasted for my consistent opinions for quite awhile now. So please don’t put me on the Gingrinch Ping list for goodness sake!!!
