GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich promised Republican Jewish activists on Wednesday that, if elected President, he would move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The Washington Post reported that Gingrich also promised to use U.S. dollars to fund every dissident group in Iran and said he would appoint former UN Ambassador John Bolton, a conservative favorite, to head the State Department.
Gingrichs pro-Israel speech was made as part of a gathering of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Washington. All GOP presidential candidates except for Rep. Ron Paul spoke during the gathering and all expressed strong support for the Jewish state, The Washington Post said.
In his address Gingrich said, Can you imagine if our next-door neighbor were firing missiles at us and we said Oh, can we come to the table? How about saying to Hamas: Give up violence and come to the table?
He added, Its always Israels fault no matter how bad the other side is, and its got to stop.
Another presidential candidate who addressed the crowd was Mitt Romney....

Isn't it great to be popular?
“.....he would move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.”
I found it amusing that Newt said this the other day.... then this morning, Perry was saying that he’d do it. Copycat. LOL
Move the UnTIED Nations there and you’ve got my vote!
I like the Bolton idea a lot.
GW Bush made the same promise — but never did it. Neither will Newt — and he knows it. He SHOULD, but it would start a war. Newt isn’t going to upset his friend Nancy Pelosi like that.
Move them to Cairo to the tune of I Don’t Want Her, You Can Have Her, She’s Too Fat For Me.
ROTFLMA!!!!
That’s great Newt!

Move the United Nations to Haiti and if we are lucky the island WILL tip over.
Newt Gingrich has said this all along.
Nothing new for Gingrich.
He said it’s one of his Executive Orders he will issue on day one.
In that case, Tortuga off Cuba is the place for it. Keep the Navy using the island for artillery practice, and forget to tell them about the big new building.
Perry has a long history of support of Israel. In 1989, then Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry began the Texas-Israel Exchange. He talks of his trips to Israel in the speech linked above. It's a dynamite speech.
(a) move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
(b)use U.S. dollars to fund every dissident group in Iran and
(c)appoint former UN Ambassador John Bolton, a conservative favorite, to head the State Department.
Might be simply pandering to Con and Jewish vote, but gotta LUV his bold, "in your face Obama, and State Dept Socialists" promises.
Can't imagine ANY Freeper would obejct to any of those proposals???
Don't know if he will get the "R" nod (and I'm still undecided, though leaning more and more towards Newt) but can anyone NOT imagine how Dear Leader would be put on a spot if asked during a debate WHY he has not supported Iranian dissidents (and in fact, pandered to and appeased Iran's Mad Mullahs) or moved the embassy to Jerusalem.
That any many other issues would make for very interesting debates and I'm convinced, Newt would "Neuter" the Community Agitator in Chief.

Fine, but I've heard this from GWB and Colin Powell, and it's been in the GOP Platform. If he's serious about Bolton, he'd probably do it. But as we enter Arab winter, Islamic spring, the impact won't be what it would have been a decade ago.
Here's a FR post about Gingrich dragging Jonathan Pollard into the political fray earlier today.

My Comment at the post (#3) 6:28 PM Today
I support Israel with the best of them but Gingrich is scooping near the bottom. Soon, very soon, hes going to demand we move our embassy to Jerusalem.
Uh, dude there's already a war. All this would do would put the US on the right side of it for a change.

Well, didn’t Bachmann say it first at a prior event?

No, dude, what’s going on right now is a low intensity, violent interlude of unrest. A WAR is what would happen if the Embassy was moved to Jerusalem.... The next President should do it ANYWAY — but, it WOULD be a real war then.... And no President will actually do it.
