Chinese man arrested after paddling two miles to watch Taiwan elections
A Chinese man has been detained for entering Taiwan illegally after paddling two miles from China's Fujian province to the offshore island of Kinmen, apparently to observe next month's Taiwanese elections, an official said
Guo Jiyong, 35, will be repatriated to China, coast guard spokesman Shih Yi-nan said.
The January 14 presidential and legislative elections have stirred great interest in authoritarian China, with last Saturday's televised debate among the three presidential candidates sparking thousands of Internet comments, many of them praising Taiwan's democratic system.
"I want to see your elections with campaign flags flying all over the place," Mr Guo told Taiwanese reporters after he was caught in Kinmen on Wednesday.
"Taiwan and China are one country," he said. "How can you arrest me for illegal entry?"
Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949. China still claims the island as part of its territory.

You will need to consult a psychic, ordinary mortals cannot distinguish between serious news and satire in this era, they are to much alike. Sometimes I can spot satire but only because it makes more sense than the straight news reporting.

This could be the new “standing in front of the tank” guy.
Impressive.
And brave. It will be interesting to see what sort of treatment he receives.
