Whatever the polls say now, you can take it to the bank - if he wins the Republican nomination, Obama will be re-elected. Newt will lose disaffected Democrats, Independents and women to name three, plus everyone else who stays home. In fact, I can imagine Republicans voting for Obama easier than Dems or most Independents voting for Newt. He is one of those Republicans that is no good either ideologically or electorally. It feels like being led to the slaughter. The only more horrendous defeats would have come at the mercy of Cain, Bachmann or Santorum.
You say Newt will lose to obama and Cain, Bachmann, or Santorum would suffer even greater defeats.
So who do you think can beat obama??
