After reading the advice from this group....and God bless you all for it....I did exactly what you all suggested. I took her to a gun show yesterday here in town and let her pick up tons of handguns to see how they felt in her hand, etc.

She very quickly settled on the newest Glock 30, a small .45 that fit her hand perfectly. While a bit large for a typical concealed carry weapon, it was such a perfect fit that I bought it for her on the spot. Add a nifty Glock heavy nylon carrying bag for weapons/ammo/accessories and a slick little outside black leather holster that will keep the Glock very close to her body....and a couple hundred rounds of ammo....she was good to go.

Not to mention thrilled to death. No, she didn’t get to open it on Christmas morning but she was so happy and smiling ear to ear it didn’t matter. She’s beyond thrilled.

Thank you all so very much for your great advice on this. God bless you and have a very Merry Christmas.

Pinging to let you see how your advice was followed (and SirLurkedalot.....your choice was dead on, as it turned out!).

We went to the range yesterday and we both got to fire the Glock 30. What an amazing weapon. Despite the fact it’s a .45, it had a fraction of the recoil of her Glock 23 (.40 cal).

Great choice, and thank you all yet again for your advice!

I’ll go a step further and HIGHLY recommend that you all check out the newest Glock 30 (like hers) as your CCW weapon. You’ll love it.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Apropos of nothing, I went over to visit my very liberal friend the other night (we have somehow instinctively figured out how never to assiduously nor vehemently discuss what we disagree about) and he pulled out (to show me) his grandfather’s 1911A1. It was a comparatively rare one, a U.S.and S. slide, he said the rest of the gun was Remington. It was in absolutely pristine condition, to shed tears over. Not a speck of rust, not even a threat of rust, and it was dry, not oily. I’m not any kind of firearms expert but this thing looked practically unfired. Gorgeous, dead stock.

Naaahh. I hear ya. Normally, I would, but we are getting to be close friends, and while I do not have a hard and fast rule about friends and money, I believe you want to do some very low dollar “practice runs” because sometimes the two just don’t mix. He knows well what it is; he claims from his research it’d be worth north of $5K if it were all matched U.S.& S. parts. That, I know nothing about, but it would seem to be a solid $2K-$2.5K gun and I suggested he might consider trading it for a modern high-quality 9mm (or .45) that would hold its value just fine and get $1500 back. Of course, all that would have to be done in a legally kosher fashion, which is another thing I am ignorant of, but it obviously can be done with the help of a FFL holder. This thing may have never seen the light of day since 1943, I seriously doubt it is registered to anyone.

I know, that would be frowned upon by the serious 1911 collector, but this is surely a one-gun owner. Seriously, the thing was just so clean, undropped, never used to pound in nails. Quite a work of art, magnificently unmessed with.
