In stores like Macy's and Nordstrom's there are dressing rooms in each different dept.: Men's, Women's, Children's, Young women, overly priced women's etc.

there are some stores, such as Gap, where it's not so separated. In a place like Macy's or Nordstrom's you can have alterations done in the dressing room common area.

If I'm not expecting a man in the dressing area, it would be quite a shock to see one walk in and change clothes.

Thank you both for your reply. I have not been into a Macy’s in probably a decade, I think there is one in a town nearby, though.

That is totally understandable, and I think the only reason Macy’s is pandering is to not incur the wrath of the ACLU et al. We truly live in a sad say in age (but I must say, not entirely unprecedented, historically).
