Marco Rubio versus Rand Paul
Townhall.com ^ | December 9, 2011 | Patrick J. Buchanan

Posted on 12/09/2011 11:45:17 AM PST by Captain Kirk

Last week, Sen. Marco Rubio, rising star of the Republican right, on everyone’s short list for VP, called for a unanimous vote, without debate, on a resolution directing President Obama to accept Georgia’s plan for membership in NATO at the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago.

Rubio was pushing to have the U.S. Senate pressure Obama into fast-tracking Georgia into NATO, making Tbilisi an ally the United States would be obligated by treaty to go to war to defend.

Now it is impossible to believe a senator, not a year in office, dreamed this up himself. Some foreign agent of Scheunemann’s ilk had to have had a role in drafting it.

And for whose benefit is Rubio pushing to have his own countrymen committed to fight for a Georgia that, three years ago, started an unprovoked war with Russia? Who cooked up this scheme to involve Americans in future wars in the Caucasus that are none of our business?

The answer is unknown. What is known is the name of the senator who blocked it — Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul, who alone stepped in and objected, defeating Rubio’s effort to get a unanimous vote.

We must stand with Georgia “War with Russia” should be the campaign motto for 2012 and we must smite those “isolationists” and their stupid dreams of a small government and besides as President Cheney said, “deficits do not matter.”

As a rule I disagree with about anything the Reform Party candidate (and long time NOT Republican) Pat Buchannan says.

I see no reason to change that opinion now.

I don’t agree with everything Pat or Ron Paul say, but when they agree with me on an issue, I in turn agree with them.

We must seek global hedgemony and I just wish Cheney’s health was up to the task of president. We need a two trillion dollar defense budget and if we would just put Larry Kudlow in charge for pro-growth along with Ben Bernanke revenues would grow exponentially. Right now us “Strong America” types are in coalition with the social engineers of the Left in beating back the idiot and no doubt anti-semetic isolationists, but I honestly think this next very important election we Strong Americans can become unchallenged and no longer in need of the Left. And then the only wells being drilled in AfPak will be via bunker busters.

“a Georgia that, three years ago, started an unprovoked war with Russia?”

That is an interesting statement.

I heard it was the other way around.

It is hard to believe that such a small country as Georgia, with so little in the way of military power, would start an unprovoked war with Russia.

The European Union came up with the conclusion that Russia provoked Georgia, a much likelier situation, IMHO.

Pat’s been in the beltway too long. Objecting to a unanimous consent request means only one thing, that the roll will have to be called if the measure is to pass.

But senators don’t like voting on things. They don’t like their names being on the record. So they do everything by unanimous consent.

Too bad. Call the roll! If it’s worth passing, it’ll pass. God knows they have enough “suggest the absence of a quorum” roll calls. All they have to do is use one of them for this.

It seems to me that neither Georgia nor Russia were clean on this and both acted in very dubious and dangerous ways. At least that is what I recall deducing from the reports at the time. In any case, however, I can’t imagine needing to expand NATO to include Georgia just so we can be forced into involvement in such squabbles. I am disappointed that Rubio chose to pursue such a course.

Pat Buchanan at least stands against the Racist Diversity Mob that wants to destroy this country. I dare say he would have been a better POTUS than Bush 1, Clinton or Dole. The Left hates everyone right of Stalin but they display more hatred for the Paleo Conservative and Black Repubs than their kissing cousins, the Neo-Con Rockefeller Re-pubs. Witness the current revolting Republicans in Congress. Maybe it is time to throw all D’s and most R’s out and start over.

It has been that way for 50 years, but the Progressives have controlled the media.

Great, war with Russia is just what we need. Maybe the world is so screwed up that only a world war will allow the deck to be re-shuffled with new borders, a new world order, and socialism for all.

Or maybe the time of the gentiles is coming in.

committed to fight for a Georgia that, three years ago, started an unprovoked war with Russia?

That's really retarded. That's sort of like saying that if Russia were bankrolling and arming a separatist movement in Alaska, and the US sent trooops in to quell the uprising, and the Russians decided to invade Alaska, as well as Washington and Oregon and actively engage US troops in a shooting war, then it's really the USA who started an "unprovoked war."

Ridiculous.

Yes, those Bushes and Doles he opposed have done much for the conservative movement.

So you disagree with the below, from http://buchanan.org/blog/quotes?

"We have accepted today the existence in perpetuity of a permanent underclass of scores of millions who cannot cope and must be carried by society — fed, clothed, housed, tutored, medicated at taxpayer’s expense their entire lives. We have a dependent nation the size of Spain in our independent America. We have a new division in our country, those who pay a double or triple fare, and those who ride forever free."

"If [Christopher] Dawson is correct, the drive to de-Christianize America, to purge Christianity from the public square, public schools and public life, will prove culturally and socially suicidal for the nation."

"Those who would change society begin by changing the meaning of words. At Howard University, LBJ changed the meaning of equality from the attainable — an end to segregation and a legislated equality of rights for African-Americans — to the impossible: a socialist utopia."

"Where equality is enthroned, freedom is extinguished. The rise of the egalitarian society means the death of the free society."

"The dirty little secret is that Congress no longer wants the accountability that goes with the wielding of power."
