What a ridiculous statement. Nowhere have I seen a Newt supporter who thought he was perfect by any stretch. Quite the contrary. Most of the 35% (give or take) who support Newt now were part of the 95% who did not when he as at 5% - meaning they all knew of his problems.
But, in life, folks with extraordinary abilities and accomplishments get passes on more foibles than those of average ability and accomplishments. That’s just the way life is.
Newt has tremendous accomplishments and tremendous abilities - and the 35% or so who are support him now are simply saying that those plusses trump his minuses.
Now agree or disagree is fine. But when you characterize Newt supporters as not knowing or admitting his flaws, you simply show ignorance of what is going on.
Pretty darned good analysis. Though if there was a way to search tagline history, I could prove I was part of the 3-5% that supported Newt many months ago.
Nevertheless, I respect people who support Bachman or Santorum. I can respect people who support RuPaul even - thought not all of them since many are obnoxious eccentrics.
What I DON’T respect are people who can’t look at a candidates achievements. abilities and faults and make a reasonable judgment wihthoug engaging in mindless vitriol against Newt. “He’s no better than Obama.” “He’s no different than Romney.”
It’s such mindless BS. Like Santorum better? Fine. From a strictly ideological point of view in many ways I do as well. Ditto for Bachman. Perry even - though it would be nice if he spoke English as a first language. But Newt has the street fighter’s temprament I want to see right now. And the intellect. Those things, coupled with his achievements and conservative core, make him my pick.
