All govt offices are bloated, inefficient and lack incentive to be otherwise.

All govt employees know this (unless they are mentally retarded).

Besides name calling, what is your criticism of what I posted? Do you believe the next generation is obligated to pay the debts of the previous generation? Do you believe that promises made by politicians are sacrosanct? The OP sounds sincere and her husband sounds like a saint. But they trusted politicians and now they are paying the price.

There is not enough money to pay for all of the promises that have been made and this lady’s lament will become very common.

What I have realized here with this one thread is the selfishness that has been displayed here. How many of you are the same age as my kids......37 and 40....maybe a little younger, maybe a little older. All I know is that I’ve never been so ashamed of a group of people in my life! You don’t know the meaning of sacrifice........have you ever been through a depression? Have you ever fought in a war? Do you have an inkling of the sacrifices made by others for your collective benefit? I’m moved to tears over the fact that so many of our boys from the Great Depression were actually turned down for service because of MALNUTRITION!! They suffered greatly and they still chose to serve.......the teachers that taught you to read and write so you can come on this forum and display your lack of what sacrifice is.......the police officer or firefighter who works long hours to protect you.......those same officers and firefighters who drag their tired butts home after a grueling 16 hour shift or more who pay taxes, retire and STILL pay taxes to this day and you say it’s not your problem? Look at how many dead and maimed soldiers have fought for you to bitch and bellyache about how bad you have it......you don’t have a clue! You’re so wrapped up in how things affect you. All we want is what we paid for......a retirement that in our case certainly wouldn’t catch the world on fire but was worked for and paid for and yes, we want it. We all better be aware that a sham just might be in the works here. Already the story is changing about this person about which this thread originally started. The subject of this thread was not a public employee but an employee of a private institution. Can anyone verify this? There’s a big difference here. Is it a possibility no union was involved and no public money was wasted and are pensions of people who sacrifice their lives to educate and protect you a waste? If people had not been willing to do these things that enable you to act this way, what would you be doing now? Are you willing to sacrifice your parents and grandparents welfare just because you say and think it’z not your problem? Beware you will age and one day and I hope everything you’ve worked toward and for will be there for you.

The criticism stems from your verbal shrugging off of the problem- i.e., too bad, lady...You and others are in trouble because you “trusted a politician”. I’m sure she and many others did not trust the politicians, BUT she and many others BELIEVED that after working X number of years they would receive the retirement they are entitled to. We all know that the well is dry, and things are going to get bad for EVERYONE. But for you to be so cavalier about her situation is unnecessary and disheartening.

Dawgreg- sadly, I have seen behavior worse than that on this “conservative” website. Mention SS and people will come crawling out of the walls calling recipients “leeches”, “thieves”, etc.

There really isn’t hope for society when even supposedly conservative people are so heartless.

Oh how well I know Reddy. I have for the past several months have felt totally alone politically......I’m beginning to wonder if the Demons aren’t a better friend to us and our situations than the Republicans are. Here in Texas it seems one Demonrat in particular is really more on our side than Republicans in fighting to keep our pension and when the Republicans say that changing Social (In)Security won’t affect us baby boomers, can we believe them? Right now I don’t know. :(
