Gingrich defends comments on Palestinians
Associated Press ^ | Dec. 10, 2011

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich says he is being factually accurate when he calls the Palestinians an "invented" people and says they are the creation of anti-Israel propaganda.

Gingrich's chief rival for the presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, says the former House speaker has made a mistake in the description and has made it more difficult for Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate toward peace.

Romney’s comment is unsurprising, but still disappointing. If he thought it would help him get traction with Conservatives, he’s wrong.

Things that are true need to be stated clearly even if they are not politically correct.

Newt Gingrich is right in his statement about them being an ‘invented’ people. There is no such thing as a Palestinian people; the people that call themselves Palestinians are, for all intents and purposes, in language, genetics and culture, ARABS.

Yasser Arafat was not a Palestinian, he was an Egyptian.

Romney’s point was that we shouldn’t throw fuel on an already raging fire by claiming the Palis are invented, but as Newt said, Israelis are getting lobbed with Kassam rockets daily, so how could you possibly make their lives any worse by telling the truth about the lie that is the Palestinian people?

I wonder what Romney would say if he personally saw the school kids in Israel, who bust out in terrified crying when someone simply slams a door. Or those that jump and crawl under desks crying when a loud noise like that happens.

Gingrich is right. The Palestinians were taught by the Nazis during WW2 on terror tactics, kicked out of Jordan, and nearly every single country they have been in.

You can never resolve an issue if you won't face it squarely. That's why the "Mideast peace process" has been a crude and stupid and deadly joke for forty years. No one, not Carter, not Reagan, not Bush, not Clinton, not Bush, not Obama has had the simple gonads to tell the truth about these pig-f*ing raghead rat-bastards. Until now.

Newt is right and Mitt is wrong.

Many decades ago, the term "Palestinian" was being applied to Jews, even.
On the other hand, things are what they are and there's little point to oppose the creation of yet another Arab state called Palestine if it can be made non-terrorist. (Did I say IF?)

Maybe Newt will help ignite the demise of political correctness.

Now, if he only came out as forcefully against global warming, and called it a hoax constructed by a mentally unstable Al Gore!!

Newt was just quoting this guy:

“PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein said this in 1977: The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism.

For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.

The Palestinian nation was invented as a tool of the jihad against Israel. Instead of tiny Israel surrounded by huge and hostile Arab states, the picture suddenly changed to the powerful Israeli war machine victimizing an even tinier people.”

I was thrilled by Newt standing up for the people of Israel in his Reaganesque truth telling about the murderous Palestinians in the debate tonight.

Like the bombastic Churchill who was dismissed until the crisis of war propelled him to national leadership, I can’t help but think that Newt is going to surprise us with providing exactly what we need to get us back into shape.

After watching him dominate in the debate again, I am proud to be a Newtonian.

Mitt's bet will reverberate across the country on talk radio this week.

He's just put himself in bed with the 1% crowd, the ones the OWS people despise.

Was Mitt trying to impress everybody with the number 10,000, or was it to him like a $5 bet for us?

Either way it was his "macaka" moment.

I loved how Newt made the point that Reagan’s state department wanted him to take out his “Mr. Gorbachav, tear down this wall” part of his speech and Reagan refused.

Like Reagan, Newt favors truth over political correctness.

Agree with that. But many other candidates have made such pronouncements (ex. moving embassy to Jerusalem) and then punted when the time came. But that can be said of all the candidates - except Romney. Hopefully Mittens' disgraceful comments about "Palestinians" will finally cause his numbers to plummet with the base.

Yeah, in 1970s - maybe.

Newt is stuck in “history”. And, his comparison to Reagan’s direct stances against the Soviets was ridiculous on its face. Soviets were the enemies of the US. Palestinians (yes, that is now a settled term) are the enemies of Israel. It is just very stupid to speak for them.

With the Arab's, their book, 'How to Serve Jews', is a cook book!

Truth is not irrational. Making inflammatory statements that throw monkey wrenches into the most volatile region in the world is irrational. Especially, as a Presidential candidate who is supposedly the latest frontrunner. Newt wants to be a historian (like he claimed in the debate), then he should go be one. He is not auditioning for that job though, unfortunately for the GOP.

The Palestinians were dancing in the streets on 9/11, and they are the enemies of Israel, sending wave after wave of suicide bombers across the borders to kill women and children.

What he said is arguably true but what is the advantage? There must be some strategy. He's already promised to move the embassy to Jerusalem.

It seems unlikely Newt would be making these moves without some sense of Israel's take. I'm surprised, actually, there has been a comment one way or another since they have seemed happy to comment freely in the past.
