So once again, he was not prepared for an interview or debate. He had an effective defense for his eight justices comment that his campaign had prepared, he had to know he would be asked about it, yet he stumbled and reinforced the notion that he is a bumbler instead.

I prefer an unrehearsed, honest admission over a nice-sounding, handler-prepared lie any day. I am by no means totally sold on Perry, but my respect for him just went up a little bit.

Except that the position the campaign was putting forward actually was correct. Perry did mention the 1962 decision a few minutes before the 8 justice reference, and the vote in the Abington decision was 8-1. I stood corrected in my criticism of Perry over the eight justice remark and said such this morning. I actually was waiting for Perry to spank Wallace for cause when the question came out, and Perry missed a golden opportunity to do such.

Perry is really weird that way. He had a perfectly valid reason for the eight justice statement and couldn't hold to it under the pressure of an interview - it's like he freezes up and has not gone through a mock interview with his staff first to prepare. That is NOT how you run an effective campaign. You work on forming messages and sticking to them. He could have put forward the case to Wallace that he was correct and the MSM is too quick to attack him. Instead he just reinforced the image Wallace was wanting to portray of him. Yet another unforced error.
