STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A source close to the family of Joe Paterno tells The Associated Press the former Penn State coach was admitted to the hospital Sunday after re-fracturing his pelvis following a fall at his home.

The person requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. The person said no surgery was required. Paterno initially injured the pelvis after a player accidentally blindsided him in preseason practice.

Paterno is also being treated for lung cancer. The person said it was determined he should stay in the hospital to keep his regiment of treatments while recovering from the injury.

University trustees fired the 84-year-old Paterno last month amid mounting criticism that school leaders should have done more to prevent abuse allegations against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, who maintains his innocence.

JoPa’s life has suddenly become a Twilight Zone episode. It’s like coaching was keeping the Grim Reaper at bay.

Many people retire or otherwise leave their jobs, voluntarily or involuntarily, then die shortly thereafter.

Bear Bryant, who coached Alabama for a lot of years, died shortly after his retirement. Many people have nothing in their lives, but their work and when that work is gone, they cannot survive.

“... many people retire, voluntarily or involuntarily.. then die shortly thereafter”.

True but he left his position after the diagnosis of cancer and he is into his 80’s. With respect to this case, retiring isn’t contributing to his failing physical health. It may contribute to his mental outlook but certainly not with respect to his age/cancer situation. IMHO.

Just think of all the little boy pelvis’ abused at the hands of Sandusky, with JoePa’s tacit approval.

Mental state dies affect how we deal with illness. As I said, it seems coaching was his life. If people don’t have other outlets, they just die.

Screw JoPa, he’s an enabler. Hell, he probably tripped over a little boy getting out of the showers. F him.
