Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz: Automatic cuts must happen

While she said there’s likely to be another short-term fix, Schwartz worked with Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn) and collected 120 co-sponsors, including 21 Republicans, on a bill to move away from a fee-for-service plan. She said the bipartisan plan would “reward efficiency” and allow for a variety of payment systems for doctors to choose from.

Schwartz said the options “would save money for the government and improve quality.” There would also be a “disincentive” for doctors to stay in the fee for service plan.
