Illinois Right-to-Carry - This Week on Gun Talk Radio

Mandeville, LA – It’s fighting for the right to conceal carry in Illinois, and more, this week on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk (R) Radio, the original nationally-syndicated radio talk show about guns and the shooting sports.

U.S. Representative Timothy Johnson (IL) recently introduced the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill H.R. 3543, related to H.R. 822 that recently passed the House, to guarantee carry rights within Illinois state lines, where any kind of carrying is illegal. “Overturning this prohibition in Illinois is long-overdue,” Rep. Johnson said. “Law-abiding citizens deserve the right to protect themselves. Over 100 years of Supreme Court rulings and the 14th Amendment guarantee that no state can deny the rights and privileges of any citizen. The Second Amendment could not be more clear on this issue. Forty-nine other states understand this and have reasonable policies in place to ensure that only law-abiding people willing to go through authorized safety training are permitted this right. The only reason Illinois is the exception is Cook County. This is not acceptable.” More information can be found at http://timjohnson.house.gov.

If you still have some holiday shopping to do, Gun Talk guest Pete Brownell, of Brownells, might be able to help. Brownells website gives you immediate access to ammo, lasers, gun parts, accessories and more! Visit www.brownells.com to visit the world’s largest supplier of parts and accessories.

Also on the show this Sunday, Jim Shepherd of The Shooting Wire and The Outdoor Wire stops by with info on the latest congressional hearing with Eric Holder regarding Operation Fast and Furious, held on Thursday. I am looking at buying an entry level 1911 style .45. I have shot the Taurus and like it ok. This is not to be a primary defense weapon, just for fun mostly. I like Rugers but their 1911 isn’t appealing to me. Any thoughts on what might be a decent buy and what to stay away from?

The caller has a good point on sales numbers based on NICs.
If you have a CCW you no longer have to submit to NICs.
You do still fill out the 4473 form.

I bought Rock Islands but that was before Taurus started making 1911’s.
I have heard nothing but good revues of the Taurus 1911’s. They have a low price, they are well made and they have a lifetime transferable warranty.

If I was buying a budget 1911 now I think the Taurus would be at the top of my list to look at.

I don't have first hand knowledge, but if any place close to you has it, you might take a look at the Para GI Expert. I saw it in a sporting goods store ad in todays newspaper for $549.99.

Most all of the 1911 manufactures make a quality pistol nowadays.

I bought a Rock island Armory 1911 commander with a bull barrel for $350 I love that thing! I had to polish the feed ramp , but that thing works like a hose!

I would avoid old Llamas and AMT's

I bought my wife an Armscor 4” barreled .38 SPL service revolver a few years ago. It’s a very straight shootin gun.

On the low end 1911’s I find that if you just polish the feed ramp with a bit of Herbs Yellowstone on a piece of belt leather folded to a “U” that fits the feed ramp, fixes them up real good.

They will eat anything if you do that.

I entered a contest the other day for a Ruger M77 Hawkeye rife, chambered in 7mm-08 Rem. I’m not at all familiar with that round. What would it be suitable for? Varmints, big game, zombies?

I am not familiar with that round but I think that is for deer

The 7mm-08 Remington is a rifle cartridge that is almost a direct copy of a wildcat cartridge developed around 1958 known as the 7mm/308. As these names would suggest, it is the .308 Winchester case necked down to accept 7 mm (.284) bullets with a small increase in case length. Of cartridges based upon the .308, it is the third most popular, behind only the .308 itself and the .243 Winchester.[1] In 1980, the Remington Arms company popularized the cartridge by applying its own name and offering it as a chambering for their model 788 and model 700 rifles.
