Newt was RIGHT! - The Palestinians ARE an "invented" people!
So, why is he backtracking on this issue? Palestinians is translated: "Philistines" or "to divide."
Oh when it comes to the issue of "Palestinian" statehood, one would be hard pressed to find a more divisive issue since the dominant news media is so bent on giving the "Philistines" back their land.
Ironically, Philistines are not Arabs and Arabs are not Philistines. So, when modern Arabs raise their angry fists and claim they have ancient roots to the land of Israel, it is a nonsensical demand. That would be like Rush Limbaugh saying he owned Russia because of the pronunciation of the first syllable of the name of that nation!
This video narrated by Carl Gallups of ppsimmons succinctly puts the whole Palestinian matter into perspective.
Anyone who reads even short summations of history knows that Newt was/is correct.
I hope he does not walk back his comment, but rather stands by it.
I think Newt wants folks to look at what’s going on at the UN with the Palestinians attempt to be a nation unto itself. (I think that’s how it goes.)

Here is the jig. IF the president, our good muslim president, acknowledges “palestinians” then it is “so”. Then they are recognized and legitimized. Other fools will follow.

So, to bring myself up to speed I decided to do some research on the Palestinians. I wanted to now how their Govt. was structured . Was their top dog a President , a Mufti, a Prime minister, a Sultan, a Magistrate? So I tried to find the Palestinian Constitution on-line to see how the Govt. was structured.
I couldn't find it and realized that there was no functioning country called Palestine. It was an Invention of the Muslims and that falsehood was pushed forward by the Media. - tom

Rome first referred to the area as “Plesheth” which came to be known as “Philistines” in English. That became “Palestine”. It was an insult to conquered Israel that stuck.
The term Palestine was not invented by the Romans--it is found already in Herodotus (c. 430 B.C.) so presumably had been used in the intervening centuries between the period when the Bible tells us about the Philistines (mostly Judges and the early period of the Israelite monarchy) and the period of Persian rule. It isn't clear from Herodotus how large an area the name applied to--perhaps mainly the corner of the Land of Canaan that the Philistine cities had been located in (present day Gaza Strip and adjacent parts of Israel).
Okay. And good info. But I never said anything about where the name originated. Only that the Romans used it to insult Israel/Judea after they were conquered.
