A new poll from the University of Iowa shows Newt Gingrich holding his double-digit lead in the state among likely caucus-goers, garnering 30 percent of voters.

According to the Hawkeye Poll, Mitt Romney trailed with 20 percent, while Ron Paul rounded out the top three with 11 percent of likely caucus-goers. Of the candidates in single digits, Michele Bachmann led with 9 percent, followed closely by Rick Perry at 8 percent and Rick Santorum at 5 percent.

Eleven percent of those surveyed remain undecided, and 4 percent signaled support for Herman Cain, who has now dropped out of the nominating contest amid allegations of sexual impropriety.

Wasn’t there an earlier story saying he lost ground? I sure do wish they would get their agenda straight.

The electoral process is inimical to our cherished American exceptionalism. Americans have come to expect a standard of behavior from those who present themselves as presidential candidates.

Newt’s front-runnning status is undoubtedly fueled by his debate responses. Of all the candidates, Newt, alone, has exhibited a formidable presence, and a studied detachment.

Newt’s winning Americans over with his profound knowledge of (and a good-natured willingness to explain) govt minutiae to attentive voters.

Newt allied himself with Reagan into building the Reagan Coalition. The resultant Reagan Revolution had enornmous consequences: the downfall of the Soviet Union, the Contract with America, government reforms, a shrinking government, tax cuts, a balanced budget, and the great, long-standing Reagan economy.

Newt has actual accomplishments.

The ACU gave him a 100% rating.

American exceptionalism is key——voters can and should reject those candidates who do not meet the standard.

Newt keeps going like the Energizer battery. Hope he wins in Iowa and wish he could beat Romney in NH, but that would be a miracle.

Given the choice between Barry and Newt, who ya got? Should the GOP nominate Newt, they will get “a pig in a poke” and they will deserve it.

I give the ACU less than a 50% rating. It is NOT conservative.

Agreed. The pig in a poke is who we get...with either. Bachmann is right...we are being given "NEWt ROMNEY" as our only choice if we don't ditch these guys. Nobody can claim to be a constitutionalist small governmenter or tea-partier if that is who they are backing when we have a couple much more conservative folks still to select. We must stop letting the MSM control us, and RINO groups like the ACU, which has already been outed, see here

When was the poll taken...before or after the debate?

The answer to that question, depending, could render your comment...even more irrelevant, are the kindest words to use.

Slinging out a throwaway (for what its worth) line based on a single poll, University of Iowa, when there are polls coming out the wazoo??

Quite a stretch, even for poll-aholics...

Post #12 shows the poll was taken before the debate, well before, not after it.

Therefore your comment that it shows people’s reaction to Perry in the debate is 100% bogus.

Newt Romney?

Keeps going like the Energizer bunny rabbit?

Perhaps just like the jihadists in the ACU...they keep going and going as well, no matter how nutbag the RINO establishment wishes them to 'conform'

ACU- We are prepared to give our lives for the cause of islam

That comment about Texas Handshake and Marriage vows was pathetic and self righteous and has no place in a debate about policy If others want to bring it up OK but the candidate himself should not and it smacks of desperation when that is an argument to have to use
