THere is some silly convention that says you cannot execute someone unless they are cognizant that you are executing them. So the combo drugs keep the victim alive so they die awake or some such BS.

“Nitrogen Asphyxiation”

Three employees working in a windowless room at a facility I worked at died this way. They were unaware there was a nitrogen leak. No symptoms at all, apparently.

I suspect, though, that there must be some legal reason that executions are carried out the way they are. Any lawyer types out there who can explain why there’s a dearth of options?

I wouldn't bet more than 50 cents on it but I heard one of the drugs is a tranqualizer so they relax. I personally don't care if they know or don't know...after being on death row, they are aware that they will be killed...too many cooks spoil the broth and some anti-death penalty get their opinion taken seriously...the goal is kill the bastard, don't care if he suffers in the process.

but I have soften my idea of the death penalty due to corruption of prosecutors that just want a name for themselves and some prosecutors are politically motivated.

Republicans get railroaded by democrat prosecutors, like Libby and Delay (not death penalty but charged with garbage just to get them out of office or are criminals for being republicans....

As far as the cost of prison with no chance of parole, get rid of all the extra's that prisons have to provide due in some cases to judges orders...do they really need top of the line gyms and excercise equipment, does each cell need a TV at tax payers expense. A bed, a cell, 3 meals a day and outside excercise can be made into seperated area's to avoid stabbing and drug transfers between prisoners....

I wonder how many prisoners live better in prison than they would be outside of prison. Death penalty only for those that kill children. Even if they sexually attack children, death penalty for them also...

No parole for any others until they have been in there 20 years...

Well, personally, I’ve always wanted to go back to hanging them in the public square.
Except for really egregious cases, in which case I’m all for public impalement.

I've always wondered why this isn't done.

I was nearly asphyxiated by nitrogen displacing my breathing space once.

I didn't have a clue till I started feeling light headed and getting tunnel vision.

Fortunately I recognized it and made it to a nearby door.

Absolutely no pain or shortness of breath involved.

Oh I can answer that. In most states that have capital punishment, the method(s) of execution are prescribed by law. Now as to why the legislators do not accept other forms of execution such as Nitrogen Asphyxiation ... I attribute that to a lack of awareness or education on the part of the legislators.

Some good, capitalist U.S. entrepreneurs will fill the gap and start a business to produce the necessary drug. It’s the American way. You see a need and a void, you jump into it, and make money to boot.

You said: “...Well what execution style the Krauts would suggest, seeing they are the Jewish-execution champions of all time...”

None. Since we learned from our history. In the meantime we Europeans have quite different values than the US. We leave executions to other countries on this planet (only in Belarus they still have capital punishment).

Nevertheless we found it really quite funny that you guys are still not able to produce your own poison in the US (the article is from 2011). The de- industrialisation in combination with your funny laws makes you more and more dependent from others. Not very impressive.

Regards from Europe
