Newt takes no-adultery pledge

When the Iowa social conservative group The Family Leader unveiled a sweeping pledge on marriage and abortion over the summer, Newt Gingrich was one of the candidates who passed on signing it.
Now, Gingrich has answered the pledge with a lengthy written response, vowing to support a federal marriage amendment, reinstate the Mexico City policy -- and, per the stipulations of The Family Leader pledge, to be faithful to his wife:
I also pledge to uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others.

To Bob Vander Plaats and the Executive Board of The FAMiLY LEADER:
I appreciate the opportunity to affirm my strong support of the mission of the FAMiLY LEADER by solemnly vowing to defend and strengthen the family through the following actions I would take as President of the United States.
Defending Marriage. As President, I will vigorously enforce the Defense of Marriage Act, which was enacted under my leadership as Speaker of the House, and ensure compliance with its provisions, especially in the military. I will also aggressively defend the constitutionality of DOMA in federal and state courts. I will support sending a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman to the states for ratification. I will also oppose any judicial, bureaucratic, or legislative effort to define marriage in any manner other than as between one man and one woman.

In the letter, Newt pledged “personal fidelity to my spouse”.
For those in Rio Linda, that means “no adultery” (except for Mormon polygamists).
He didn’t honor his pledge 2 other times, why would anyone think he would honor this one.

During April 1980, Newt and Jackie separated. They divorced in February 1981.
“The most notorious incident in Gingrich’s marriage ... was when he cornered Jackie in her hospital room where she was recovering from uterine cancer surgery and insisted on discussing the terms of the divorce he was seeking. Shortly after that infamous encounter, Gingrich refused to pay his alimony and child-support payments. The First Baptist Church in his hometown had to take up a collection to support the family Gingrich had deserted. Six months after divorcing Jackie, Gingrich married a younger woman, Marianne, with whom he had been having an affair.”

I tend to agree with you. I think he may have had a genuine turn-around with God. I also have noticed that he frequently takes the opportunity to drive home the message that our rights come from God and not from the state. Santorum and Bachmann have doe the same, but Gingrich has the numbers right now.
For those who are opining that the new rules for this year might allow a dark-horse entry early next year...I can only say that... I have never heard any of those possible candidates proposed by the same pundits repeatedly emphasizing that message. I can’t honestly say that I’ve heard any of them talk about it at all. They may have....but I am unaware of it.
I want a presidential candidate who understand the the economy is NOT the main goal....but rather a restoration of the country from top to bottom, a country of good people who seek God and His Wisdom.
A blessed event.
Personally, I think all these ‘pledges’ are STUPID.
Irrelevant. His creator kept his promise to Newt. He died for his sin and in accepting that gift, Newt became justified in the eyes of God Almighty. That's enough for me. As the Bible passage goes: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Do you really want to go there? Everybody is fallible. Everybody has feet of clay. I'm a Calvinist, so I believe in the doctrine of universal and radical depravity of man. Even Christians sin. In my personal salvation, I did my part. I sinned. Jesus did his part, he gave his life for that sin. On that basis, I'm going to cut Newt a huge break on this topic. Remember, if you even think of the sin, it's the same as doing it. So which of you is blameless?

Yes, he did. And thus far he has broken that pledge twice.
He wants the vote of the shareholders aka voters of USA to obtain a job as CEO, and wants me to trust his judgment. As one of the individuals who has a say in making that decision, I have to take his entire record in consideration in making that decision. Can I trust him? In most elections, I wouldn't vote for him. Luckily for Newt, he has other people interviewing that I can not support. However, I'm not on the Newt bandwagon at this time.
Maybe Newt’s schlong has now shrunk to the point of no return?

Repentance requires an admission of the Sin and to ask forgiveness from the person wronged.
If Newt were not running for the highest office in the U.S it would be none of my business.
However he has decided to place himself under public scrutiny, and we do deserve an answer on this one, doncha think.
