Obama stands up for racial diversity in school policy

Barack Obama has deftly begun what could be his most significant legacy on racial equity.

Did you miss it? Most people did.

In early December, the administration sent new guidelines to the nation’s 17,000 school districts about how to address “racial isolation” in primary and secondary schools. It also sent new guidelines to college administrators about promoting racial diversity in admissions policies. The new directives are notable for the ways in which they reverse the spirit of George W. Bush’s 2008 dictate against race as a consideration for school admissions.

Obama’s message was that schools and universities need to stay within the law, but that they may get creative in crafting policies that promote diversity. The administration says it will have their back, within constitutionally allowable limits.

It’s a critical difference in approach. The Bush administration issued its directive to schools and universities to avoid considering a student’s race in the wake of U.S. Supreme Court rulings on racial preferences in education. The Obama administration’s gambit is bold, offering suggestions for skirting the high court’s strictures using methods already in use by savvy admissions offices.

What difference does it make if it’s impossible to get a copy of the student’s academic performance and grades...

The central thesis of Obama’s diversity policy is to do a big “pay back on whitey!”

Don't need no congress, they just get in the way of my awesome vision. Don't need no Supreme Court, too many Catholic crackers and Uncle Toms with silly notions of some old document. I'll run your lives from here, if you don't mind.

Someone should propose that any illegal (Read Hispanic) cannot be counted as a “minority.”

He showed us what he thought of the Supreme Court when he insulted them to their face at the State of the Union address...and by selecting Sotomayor and Kagan to seats on the court.

Probably most school and college administrators are eager to ignore the Supreme Court on this issue anyway.

There is an elephant in the room. We cannot mention its presence. The reasons for this can be described as “for political correctness”. Once its presence permanently undermines our competitiveness as a nation, those who notice our demise will be told...”Well, duh...”. At that time, it will be too late to easily fix the problem. Look to Europe to see how this has played out. Has this practice made Europe stronger?

Is the answer is not “Yes” is it acceptable to follow their path?

Is it is not acceptable, what should we do to NOT follow that path?

They’ve been doing it for decades at this point; been to a college campus lately?
