(CNN) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday his country can "control" the U.S. drone aircraft that Iran claims it recently brought down, Venezuelan state TV reported.

"There are people here who can control this spy plane, surely we can analyze this plane too," Ahmadinejad told VTV. "The systems of Iran are as advanced as this system."

President Barack Obama said Monday that the United States has asked Iran to return the drone aircraft that Iran claims it recently brought down in Iranian territory.

"We've asked for it back. We'll see how the Iranians respond," Obama said.

Will Iran share stealth tech with China? Ahmadinejad comments to VTV seemed to suggest that Iran did not have plans to return the aircraft.

I worked on the COBRA JUDY replacement. COBRA JUDY is a ballistic missile intelligence ship. The new COBRA JUDY had a much more stringent dynamic range requirement for its S-Band radar. The legacy CJ would sail unescorted off the coast of the Soviet Union and collect data unmolested.

The new ship was designed to work off the coast of [insert less predicable country here] and the concept of operation called for an Aegis cruiser to be stationed five kilometers in front CJR, between the ship and shore. CJ and CJR are tied for having the most powerful S-Band radar in the world. It had to have enough dynamic range to operate with a Aegis ship on the surface (Aegis one megawatt S-Band is no slouch, either) between it and the targets.

Maybe “the concept of operation” for these drones near Iran and Nork should include an escorting shooter.

I agree...

...”A U.S. satellite quickly pinpointed the downed drone, which apparently sustained significant damage, the senior official said.

“The Iranians have a pile of rubble and are trying to figure what they have and what to do with it,” the senior U.S. official said. The drone crashed solely because its guidance system failed, the official said. Officials confirmed to CNN it was an RQ-170 drone that was lost.

Another U.S. official confirmed that when the drone crashed, the United States briefly considered all potential options for retrieving the aircraft or bombing the wreckage, but those ideas were quickly discarded as impractical...”
