Newt Gingrich in New Hampshire: Deafening applause

WINDHAM, N.H. – New Hampshire is supposed to be Mitt Romney turf, but Newt Gingrich was the one with the Granite State magic Monday night. The former House speaker locked the attention of the 1,000-person overflow crowd at Windham High School here with the serious, controlled manner of a nominee holding a general election town hall.

Classic Gingrich was on full display. “You will not see me bow to a Saudi king,” he said to deafening applause. “Tomorrow morning I’ll release a letter to my staff, to any consultants and to any surrogates we have indicating our determination to run a positive campaign,” Gingrich said, in a call for civility at the end of a day when he and Romney had veered sharply to the negative.

Jack Kimball, a former New Hampshire GOP chairman who recently endorsed Gingrich, said the former House speaker is gaining ground – rapidly. “Newt’s really closing the gap here in New Hampshire. This is going to be nip-tuck,” he said.

Gaining?

Argh! Don’t believe it for a minute!

Torn between wanting Newt to win (best possibility - minor progressive) and wanting Romney to lose (lousy major progressive).

Actually, seems that both at about the same but different in their “progressiveness”. Damn, isn’t that a shame!

We have such a hollow decision on who will represent us!

Maybe we should just ignore both and let the idiots re-elect Obama so that they can see the benefits of his idiotic policies...

Seems that our so called Congress and Senate can’t seem to do anything positive anyway...

Congress consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

So, what was it you were trying to say?

Not really the same as Newt is, at least, a thinking man ... a man with ideas. Are all of them good? No. But at least he studies and thinks.

Romney is a political animal. He doesn't think so much as he simply opines of the thoughts of other men. Granted, he has business acumen. But he lives and breathes to be president and his whole demeanor screams smarmy politician.

““I just like him because he answers questions. Other guys give you a story instead of an answer,” said Jerrid Kenney of Manchester.”

That is Newts strength. Lets just hope he can beat out Romney in New Hampshire. That will open up the contest for Bachmann, Perry and Rick.

Heh... After reading my comment, yep, you’re right! A bit carried away there...

Yes, should have said the House and Senate, sorry about that. You win cookies...

Now as to the point...sorry, still the same...

Love the thinking man thing..heh.

As if Romney is not a political animal?

Don’t you actually think that both are close in both thinking and politics?

If Gingrich wins in New Hampshire, it is a GOP coronation for Gingrich.

JustaDumbBlonde, it is NOT fair to compare Romney to an
animal. Romney is a dog abuser. Scum, he is.
And in between, Team Romney attack women GOP candidates through
a vast web of surrogates.

"But the details of the event are more than unseemly - they may, in fact, be illegal. Massachusetts's animal cruelty laws specifically prohibit anyone from carrying an animal "in or upon a vehicle, or otherwise, in an unnecessarily cruel or inhuman manner or in a way and manner which might endanger the animal carried thereon. "An officer for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to a description of the situation saying "it's definitely something I'd want to check out." The officer, Nadia Branca, declined to give a definitive opinion on whether Romney broke the law but did note that it's against state law to have a dog in an open bed of a pick-up truck, and "if the dog was being carried in a way that endangers it, that would be illegal."

"Dog on Roof? What Was It Like for Romney's Pooch? - Scientists Say Dog Likely Experienced Wind-Whipped, Uncomfortable Trip - "Before beginning the drive, Mitt Romney put Seamus, the family's hulking Irish setter, in a dog carrier and attached it to the station wagon's roof rack. e'd built a windshield for the carrier, to make the ride more comfortable for the dog,".. Jordan Kaplan, the owner of Petaholics, a dog walking service in New York City,
and a lifelong dog owner and dog lover, said Romney's actions were uncalled for"

"Romney's dog - This is a distinction Mitt Romney probably could do without, but he is surely the first presidential candidate to be attacked for putting a dog with diarrhea in a carrier and tying it to the top of a station wagon. Romney's defense: Seamus liked it. [like the citizens under Romney's RomneyCARE, etc.?] "

"As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ''Dad!'' he yelled. ''Gross!'' A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who'd been riding on the roof in the wind for hours. As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust, Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway."

"Story about dog on car roof comes back to bite Romney - 200 comments from readers complaining of animal cruelty"

Romney's bad behavior Exposed by Seamus

"Romney Loses Nomination Over Dog Abuse? - Romney was traveling that summer with his wife, five sons, and Seamus to his parent's cottage on Lake Huron. But hours into the ride, Seamus apparently suffered diarrhea, which ran down the back window of the car. .David Kravitz wrote on BlueMassGroup, a liberal blog. "It also strikes me as classic Romney: it solves a problem efficiently, in a business-like manner, and with no regard whatsoever for the suffering that the solution may cause."

"As if Romney is not a political animal?"

No, I think I wrote that he is a political animal.

"Don’t you actually think that both are close in both thinking and politics?"

No, I don't. I can look at Newt's Contract With America, as well as his newest list of things to do and put them next to what Romney did/said while in office, and there is a definite difference.

Newt is not perfect by any means, but he is no Romney.

If Gingrich wins in New Hampshire, it is a GOP coronation for Gingrich.
I would think so - if in fact "win" means what it has traditionally. But I think they changed the rules this time around, giving the candidates proportional delegates. If that's so, even an outright majority of the popular vote wouldn't map to a win of all delegates. And if that is the case, a brokered convention is pretty much a sure thing.

Romney is a political animal.

Yep, Romney is a weathervane!

He wants so much to have his father's approval. But he will never be his father...as much as he wishes he were.

Romney wasn't even a good governor...why would anyone think he would be a good president.

And as Newt has pointed out...Romney is timid!

Buh bye, Mitt...SEE YA!

The financial difference between Romney (with $128 million) and Gingrich (with $150 million) is fairly narrow and definitely beyond the ken of most of us ~ although I've gotten close to dealing with those numbers, but in other people's money.

I've always found Newt to be an interesting guy who is interested in knowing how things link together. About all I know about Mitt is that he lost the pizza wars. I don't think Bain made much of anything on the deal. (Cain, in contrast, brought Godfather Pizza back from the dead).

A President Gingrich would have the Democrats hooting in derision every time Newt brought up something interesting to folks ~ like "why are beer bottles brown but Cheracol is in clear glass" ~ or, when he makes a reference to "when men were hunting giraffes".

Dems are just that way. The slightest thinking outside the box, or a factoid drawn from real life's experience (rather than a made up victimolological void) is usually way beyond their interests or their ability to be interested.

I can imagine the biggest reason the Democrats would rather vote for Obama than Gingrich, or even Mitt, is that Obama asks only that they suspend disbelief for a moment or two.

Actually, I agree with you if you look at past politics.

The problem is that you need to look at what he has done since then - it is not pretty.

As long as you only look at the early years, you are right but if you look at the following years - Pelosi, Global Warming, etc... you should be questioning his actual beliefs.

Now I would still take him over Romney because he has in the past professed Conservative beliefs and can be coerced into them again. Romney, not likely.

There will be no brokered convention.

Gingrich is going to win big in the South an Mountain West.

Right now he is even winning in Michigan of all places.

And, Mittens is a Mike India Romeo (MIR — man of ill repute) kind of politician.

He is so nuanced in his principles so as to be completely spherical — that is, pointless.
