It seems to me (and I expect more than a few others) Newt’s request to his supporters not to go negative against the other candidats was made because he lives in a glass house.

Newt thinks he can run out the clock. Romney can not sit back. He must attack.

NEWT MITT

Whatever Newt's motive, strategically it's a GOOD, SMART move, as Mitt must go negative, to try and cut into Newt's support levels. So Mitt looks bad, and Newt looks "above he fray"

THis gives Perry a chance to be himself, make his case, and the numbers suggest he's doing so successfully. It appears that a good % of Cain's supporters have gone to Perry, and after Iowa, when Bachmann and Santorum are done, much of their support should flow to Perry as well.

After SC..Mittens is finished, and then I think you'll see the polls about like this..Newt 40-50%..Perry, 30-40%, Paul 10-20%..Paul stays in till the end..his supportes are hard core, dedicated..but in a two man race..Perry v. Newt..well, that's all that Rick can ask for. The GOP base will then decide, mano a mano..if Newt's baggage, history, is too much for them to stomach...

I don't think it will be a negative campaign..they both seem to liek each other, and besides, the ticket could well be Perry/Newt OR Newt/Perry.
