Ann Romney on Her Husband: ‘He’ll Stick With You In The Hard Times’

ABC News

By Shushannah Walshe | ABC News – 5 hrs ago

ROBINS, Iowa - Mitt Romney's wife Ann hit the stump Tuesday evening in this small town close to Cedar Rapids, exactly three weeks out from the Iowa caucuses, to persuade the crowd to vote for her husband by describing what an honest and trustworthy man he is.

"He's steadfast, honest, he's good. He sticks with you in the hard times," Ann Romney said in this living room at a fundraiser for a state representative. "I appreciate that, and I appreciate that quality of his. He's good to the core and I trust him so completely."

The Romney campaign has been sending Ann Romney out more, hoping she's the secret weapon that can help stop the surging campaign of Newt Gingrich. Compared to the thrice married Gingrich who has admitted to marital infidelity, the Romneys are a stark contrast: married for 42 years and seemingly still madly in love, Ann Romney is out trying to make that case without naming names or explicitly comparing family lives.

It's fair to say you won't hear that from any of Newt's wives. Newt is a legal polygamist. At least Romney doesn't practice that. Newt is a progressive not a conservative. I hope people wake up. The only conservatives have no standing in the polls. In other words, the people do not want to elect a conservative. It hurts but it is true.

Important to think about this.

Did Romney help Gov. Palin under attack by ... him through surrogates?

Did Romney help the Maucks?

Exactly whom did he help?

Probe: Mitt missed chance to keep Tavares jailed - Could have nixed killer’s early exit

Friday, December 28, 2007 - Boston Herald
"Former Gov. Mitt Romney’s administration failed to act on disciplinary recommendations
that would have kept ex-con killer Daniel Tavares locked up another year -
and behind bars at the time he was accused of killing a newlywed couple in Washington state."

"Despite Tavares’ long history of violence, the Romney-led Department of Correction
took no action on recommendations that he be stripped of “good time” because
of assaults on prison guards in 2003 and 2005, said sources familiar with a state probe into the case."

Once again as Romney let conservatism slide (never had it anyway)
Romney made certain that they died.

"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans,
has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced
,
instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who
have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.
Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats
or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians
or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show.
In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters,
and 14 registered Democrats."
- Boston Globe 7/25/2005

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys.
He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>

"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!

Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.

We all know about Newt’s indiscretions and Herman Cain was driven from the race by allegations of impropriety. So when is the media going to drag some broad out of the woodwork to accuse Romney of some bad behavior?

The media along with their overseers in the Democratic party decided long ago that Romney is going to be the candidate. No way are they going to investigate his background until and unless he becomes the Republican nominee.

Bull poop, Ann. Mitt cut and ran even before his second term expired and we got stuck with Deveil Patrick.

And RomneyCare destroyed medical care in Massachusetts creating hard times for those who were responsible enough to have purchased quality health care insurance. We now get 10 minutes maximum with our physician per visit.

As David Crockett told the people of Tennessee, I will tell the people of Massachusetts: “You can all go to hell! I am going to Texas.” (I just hope the end for me does not involve getting overrun by armed Mexicans!)

No one would believe a woman who accused Romney of sexual impropriety. Her narrative would have to be far more convincing than those of Cain's accusers, who seemed to have financial or emotional issues.

As a highly visible public figure and a man prominent in Mormon circles, Romney's opportunity to engage in illicit sex would be severely limited. Even more than evangelicals or traditional Catholics, Mormon culture puts a high value on public appearance and personal behavior. Compare obesity, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, divorce, etc., of predominantly evangelical Southern states or heavily Catholic Northeastern states with mostly Mormon Utah, and Utah will be the winner.

There is a sub rosa, but widespread perception that black men, especially successful ones, will seek white women when the opportunity arises. The same under the radar prejudice applies to the perception of faithfulness in marriage of black men. The Obama operatives (and I suspect they were the instigators of the Cain allegations) know this, and they used the tactic James Carville described as dragging hundred dollar bills through trailer parks to find the accusers. There is more than a little irony that the party that has the African-American vote in its hip pocket will use tactics reminiscent of the Dixiecrats of yore.

I genuinely believe Mitt is and always has been a good husband, which is a rare trait in the current GOP field. I also believe that personal integrity and fidelity provide insight into professional integrity. In a normal year and with a normal candidate, that would be a significant factor in Romney’s favor. These are not normal times, and Romney is not a normal candidate (at least not for the GOP). We are facing what could easily be the decisive election in the end of the United States as we know it. It’s not enough just to defeat Obama, not if we replace him with someone who will continue his policies. The next four years will be dangerous years, both internally and externally, and America needs something that Mitt cannot or will not offer.

“That is, unless you worked for a company targeted by Bain Capital”

Some people believe that Romney needs to do to the federal bureaucracy what he did during his time with Bain Capital.

Hannity and Ann Coulter last night had a strange exchange. Ann loves Mitt because she says he is one of two real conservatives in the race, Mitt and Bachmann. She doesn’t understand why people think Mitt is not conservative. She was rather incoherent and rambling.

BUT Christine whatever got my attention when she pointed out that Mitt had supported Rubio, Brown, Haley, (someone else that the RHINOs had pushed) early in the race. Christine endorsed Mitt. We know who Newt jumped up to support in many of those cases.

I have absolute and total respect for Gov. Romney’s character and the way in which he conducts his personal life.

That being said, he is not the man for the job which confronts us. Our entire country, culture and way of life is about to be overrun and choked by the great Kudzu vine of liberal government. We need someone who will mercilessly take to it with a machete and flame thrower, and Gov. Romney is not that guy.

A trained monkey would do better with the economy
than EITHER Romney or his twin, Obama.

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

[Cato Institute annual Fiscal Policy Report Card - America's Governors, 2004.]

Alex Beam: “In truth, Ronald Reagan
and Mitt Romney have as much in common
as Cardinal O’Malley and Conan O’Brien.
Deservedly or not, Reagan earned a reputation for constancy.
Once he turned against communism, he opposed it big-time.
…. And our former governor? Inconstancy, thy name is Mitt!
A woman’s right to choose? Yes! No! Yes!
Are we in Massachusetts? Yes! Are we in Iowa? No!
Are we on TV? Whatever!”

Don’t kid yourself. Everyone has the opportunity to stray. Romney is no exception. But I firmly doubt that the media will scrutinize Romney’s life with the same intensity they have exercised with the other candidates. Maybe he has been a good Mormon, but the fact is we will never know.

I wonder when people will wake up and stop allowing the media and the two major parties to pick our leaders for us.

Romney drove from Boston to Ontario with his dog in a crate on the roof of his car.

If a man treats his dog that way, how will he treat a voter?

I hate Mitt.
