The Government Could Shut Down As Soon As Friday, And It May Be Democrats' Fault This Time

Unless Congress acts soon, funding for much of the federal government will run out on Friday — and the blame for this latest shutdown threat may lie squarely at the feet of Democrats and the White House.

The bill to fund the government after Friday is done. Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) declared on Tuesday that a "handshake" agreement was reached on the "megabus" $1 trillion appropriations package.

Even Democrats say the bill is final: "Our bill is done, and it should go to the president immediately," Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA), the ranking member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and Environment, told Roll Call. "We're not holding it up. ... I can't speak for Harry Reid. I can't speak for him. As far as I'm concerned, it should be done."

But President Barack Obama called Harry Reid over the weekend to ask him to stall the bill to force Republicans back to the negotiating table on the payroll tax cut extension.

Don’t worry. The taxes will still be taken from your paycheck.

Go home to your regular jobs in the districts you represent and then some back several times a year to vote on major legislation.
While in DC maybe you could share the cost of a boaarding room with the ghost of Van Buren or the like?
GO HOME!

The media has ‘hit the wall’ in it’s efforts to twist this to the Republican’s fault. Amazing that Rs have gotten themselves in this good a position (wonder how they’ll blow it now).

Read “Some Toast With Your Jam, Mr. President?” about half-way down the page.

There's no 'may' about it. Its the democrats favorite election year tactic.

You'd think they'd try something new this year.

That would be the Perry Plan.

The republicans have already compromised. It’s Obama and Reid’s turn to compromise.

(Holding my breath.. NOT)

The Belgians have been without an official working government for 549 days now.

Civilized people do not need new laws passed constantly to live in a civilized manner.

The more money you pour into DC the less they get done and the more often they threaten to shut down.

The more money you pour into liberal schools the lower the scholastic scores and the more they cry for more money.

Seems that the worst thing you can do for a liberal is give him money.

Well I don’t know about you guys, but we happen to need the paycheck my husband earns as a government contractor since it’s the only job he could find after Lexis Nexis outsourced his job to India three years ago.
Otherwise we’d be tickled pink to see it shut down too.

Politicians can be real jerks, but the government employs real people with real families and real mortgages and most of us are damned decent law abiding people whopay our taxes too.

So can I but that's not my point. THIS is strictly election year politics at it's worst and it needs to stop NOW! The Democrats do this because they have the power (whitehut, Senate & Media). The Republicans act tough and then cave in.

We couldn't. I'm active duty...and we are still operating on CR. Our O&M budget has been continuously cut, yet prices continue to go up. I'm OK with that...we will do our part. I find it odd, though, that while MY baseline budget goes down between 10-20% a year...everyone else's in DC gets the same or an increase.

Anyway...just to let you know...the military is still on CR...that includes our DoD civilians...contractors (which we utilize a lot of now that we've outsourced the active duty)...our operating budgets...
