The Huck Litmus Test Tonight in Iowa? (no Mitt, Paul, Huntsman)
National Review ^ | 12-14-11 | Kathryn Jean Lopez

Posted on 12/14/2011 7:14:59 PM PST by STARWISE

Mitt Romney will be missing in The Gift of Life premiere audience, as well as Ron Paul, a pro-life doctor, and as Jon Huntsman.

When I asked Governor Huckabee if tonight amounts to an endorsement application test, Huckabee gives them all a pass. “More than anyone” he tells me, “I recognize that candidates have frantic schedules and all can’t come to every event.

Those who don’t come aren’t snubbing the pro-life issue, but those who do are showing that they believe it to be a priority and that is significant.”

Interestingly, Nancy Keenan from NARAL takes the premiere as an opportunity to hit Romney anyway, worried he might actually be who he says he is on her issues (not actually the weathervane he is frequently portrayed as) — and therefore not a party beholden to her.

Response to Planned Parenthood "Prebuttal" of The Gift Of Life Event

12/14/2011

Citizens United President and "The Gift Of Life" Executive Producer David N. Bossie responds to Planned Parenthood's "prebuttal" of "The Gift Of Life" premiere event:

In attacking our film premiere of "The Gift Of Life" and pro-life forum with Governor Mike Huckabee, Planned Parenthood is just trying to distract from the serious allegations being investigated in Congress that the company has: failed to report the sexual abuse of minors, given women inaccurate and misleading information, and mishandled state and federal taxpayer funds, some of which was exposed by "The Gift Of Life" cast member Lila Rose.

Planned Parenthood tries to hide the realities of abortion behind the mantle of "women's health," but how does it improve the health of women to target people like "The Gift Of Life" cast members Rebecca Kiessling and James Robison for death because they were the product of rape, or Chet McDoniel because he was born without arms and shortened legs.

Former abortion workers like "The Gift Of Life" cast members Carol Everett and Dr. Anthony Levatino expose the lie of abortion simply removing a "clump of cells" and reveal the heartlessness of abortion clinics. As U.S. Representative Chris Smith says in "The Gift Of Life," "Abortion mills are places of violence, they are not places of healing."

It is no wonder that, according to "The Gift Of Life" cast member Kristan Hawkins, the abortion industry is having trouble recruiting from this generation's medical students.

The Gift Of Life, hosted by Governor Mike Huckabee, is an inspirational documentary that explores the sanctity of life as a moral issue and looks at the lives of individuals on the front lines of the Pro-Life movement in America, including those who were nearly victims of abortion.

Republican presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have all been invited to attend the premiere and address the audience prior to the screening.

788 Babies saved world-wide with this nascent and growing movement. Participants gather to pray outside Planned Parenthoods throughout Iowa! Others who cannot be there, can make a commitment to pray for the end of abortion, through prayer and fasting during that time.

Yes, yes, Romney has a conflicting schedule and ditto for Ron Paul.

Maybe all the others do too?

DES MOINES, Iowa — The winner of the 2008 Iowa caucuses returned to Des Moines on Wednesday night to host four new presidential contenders in a gathering of social conservatives.

Mike Huckabee asked Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Sen. Rick Santorum, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry to an event at the Hoyt Sherman Place to speak on “protecting the sanctity of human life.”

Several hundred Iowans packed the theater to watch the premiere of a pro-life film and hear the presidential hopefuls’ stance on pro-life issues.

Bachmann said she would repeal all funding for Planned Parenthood.

“As far as I’m concerned, this is a seminal issue of our time — life and what we will do with the issue of life,” Bachmann said.

Gingrich promised bold legislative action.

“I will go up to Congress and asking it to defund Planned Parenthood, money to adoption services to give young women the choice of life rather than the choice of death,” Gingrich said.

Perry touted his accomplishments as governor.

“This year, I was proud to fight for and to sign a state budget defunding Planned Parenthood,” Perry said.

Santorum said the country’s problems begin and end with the sanctity of life.

“This country is based on a moral foundation. Unless we get the moral issues right, we’ll never get the economic issues or foreign policy issues right in this country,” Santorum said.

Huckabee was the evening’s co-host and was the final speaker.

“At conception, a human life begins. And no one but God has the right to end that life prematurely or in any other way besides its natural conclusion,” Huckabee said.

Huckabee also told the crowd while the event is not designed to endorse a particular candidate, the four candidates who attended should be praised for their beliefs.

Just outside Hoyt Sherman Place, the National Organization for Women demonstrated its opposition to Huckabee’s documentary.

Organizers said they want to make sure a woman’s reproductive rights are protected during the 2012 election season.

Candidates make appeal to anti-abortionists

Excerpt:

Television show host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee praised the four presidential candidates who made it a “priority” to attend the premiere of his anti-abortion film in Iowa.

Before “The Gift of Life” documentary, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum delivered seven-minute speeches on their anti-abortion agendas.

“Just outside Hoyt Sherman Place, the National Organization for Women demonstrated its opposition to Huckabee’s documentary.”

I attended this event. I think I saw about 4 or 5 pro-abortion demonstrators outside. Not much of a showing for the supporters of this evil. Of course, if this small number were pro-life demonstrators at some pro-abortion event, you KNOW the media would have to comment on such a poor showing.

Anyway, it was a fantastic event and I highly recommend those who are pro-life to see this film!
