What kind of work do you do? Are you the ONLY incomer? How do you expect the rest of the country to meet the private Christian school tution for their children?

It would be my best guess you DON’T care.

I can't add much to your comment except to say that I agree with it. According to quite a few people here, if you send your kids to public school, no matter how good it is or conservative leaning it is, you're some kind of criminal child abuser.

On a thread yesterday about teacher's pay and how outlandishly high it is, I commented that my daughter is a school teacher with 12 years experience and a master's degree and makes $44,000 per year. The responses were generally in the vein of what low intelligence she must be to have an education degree and she is over paid at $44,000.

I have two children living with me and they attend an excellent conservative public school, both are in the 6th grade, further, I do not consider myself qualified to teach 6th grade or any other grade for that matter. The nearest church school charges $8,500 per year for two children. Not everybody has that kind of cash laying around.

I observe some (not all) of the sanctimonious home schoolers here and their grammar, spelling and punctuation and am just grateful that they aren't teaching my children. I don't comment on other individual's grammar or punctuation because my own is far from perfect but then again, I don't claim to be a teacher either.

Is there one home schooler on this forum who has an average or heaven forbid, a below average child? Not to hear them tell it, every single one of them is 3 to 5 grades ahead and some of their teenagers are pursuing their doctorates already. (That's an exaggeration for the sarcasm challenged).

I'm starting a ping list for those members who send their children to a perfectly fine and even conservative public school, to counteract charges that we are all a bunch of criminal child abusers.

Kids, shut up and eat your Christmas peas and your Christmas cauliflower.

School officials say they’re also hoping to protect the growing number of children with severe food allergies.

I hear that alot these days. Where the Hell were these allergies when I was a kid? We ate all kinds of junk at school and we didn't have kids dropping over dead. Its all non-sense and hyper-sensitive, over-protective parents trying to feel important.

When my daughter was in 1st grade the school announced that kids could no longer play tag or chase each other on the playground. I told my daughter it would be OK with me if she ignored the rule. Sure enough, most of the kids ignore the rule and pretty soon the rule vanished I to thin air.

That’s what needs to happen in this case. Within reason, no school official has the right to tell parents what their kids can have in their sack lunch.

Gotcha. Surely you don't expect these gutless wonders to step on the toes of the SEIU, CSEA and the other civil serv. unions do you? And speaking of my old neighborhood, there's a house along Pelham Parkway that's literally covered with Christmas decorations, so much so it's become a bit of a tourist attraction. They even made the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most lavishly adorned house. And yet, even though it's a private residence, the ahteists from time to time hire sleazbag lawyers to either threaten legal action or their will look through the NYC building and zoning ordinances to find anything that would put this house in violation.

The allergies were there when we were kids. The difference is that back then, when kids were allergic to a food, they wouldn't make a big fuss about it. They would just decline to eat it, saying that they were allergic to it. I grew up around quite a few kids who were allergic to various foods. Nowadays, of course, we're all supposed to bend over backwards to cater to the one kid who's allergic to something... even if there isn't a single kid in the class who has an allergy.
