Is there technology to capture methane plumes measuring over a kilometer?

Ah, a SyFy movie...let me guess....monstrously bad special FX...tight camera shots to hide the cheap warehouse sets...a 'war room' with 2 people using Windows 95 PCs somehow directing all the action, and a 30-year old mainframe in the background....and Dirk Benedict as the president. Close?

No, we had the devil of a time capturing any part of the BP oil leak in the Gulf.

To get rid of the methane, strike a match. :)
