White House aides are correct. They didn’t lose anything.
Obama will simply use the State Dept., EPA, or some other agency to get, around this bills provision for the pipeline.
This was a losing deal for Republicans.
He told us before he was elected that energy prices would sky rocket and he’s not about to go back on that statement.
State under Clinton dragged it’s heels on Keystone for three years. State actually did finish its review a year ago but since State’s approval didn’t suit the more radical elements in the Obama administration other departments started submitting their own unsolicited evaluations (i.e. EPA).
It wasn’t until Sanders and Cohen complained about the PROCESS used in the approval that the State IG opened a special investigation into the approval process. This is being portrayed in the media and only yet another step in the pipeline approval process - which is BS. This is a special investigation by State IG that would not even have happened if not for the likes of Sanders and his supposed concern for “global warming” had not caused it to happen.
I’m a “Broken Glass” Republican this time.
Either the economy is BAD, so a SS-tax holiday may be warranted, [and it will wreck Social Security]
OR
The economy is SUDDENLY GOOD again [election season], so Social Security needs FULL FUNDING - by the folks who will benefit.
Before anybody celebrates too much ...... Redstate has some interesting thoughts on this:
http://www.redstate.com/dhorowitz3/2011/12/18/house-must-decouple-payroll-tax-cut-from-broader-%e2%80%98extenders%e2%80%99-package/
From a political standpoint voters seem to love to hear that they don't have to pay FICA taxes because it is funded by some magical piggy bank and they will still get SS.
Bachmann was on NBC MTP this morning and repeated her position that she is against this cut to begin with because it defunds SS. Gregory's reply was that the head of SS says that SS is fine and doesn't need these payroll taxes. Then Bachmann moved on to another subject. She is one of the bravest to speak on this, others just say to extend the cut and don't talk about where it comes from (sound familiar?).
Few if any Republican have the guts to to tell the truth that SS is being funded by issuing new treasury bill debt which is why Obama said not extending the debt would halt SS checks. Also that Obama's cynical millionaires surcharge doesn't come close to funding the year extension he wants, the two big lies.
I don’t see why approval of the pipeline wasn’t put into the bill as a guarantee instead of leaving it up to Obama to decide. Enough jockeying for political advantage. I want to see things get done. Get things done and you can run on a record of the accomplishment. Why is that so hard? This actually leaves it open for Obama to wise up and approve it and take that advantage for himself.
The central issue of this Presidential Campaign is one that nobody is talking about: “In 2013, what US Federal Spending Programs ( Social Security, Medicare, Medicare, Obama”care,” Federal Aid to Education, Federal aid to dependent children, etc., etc., etc., are going to be reduced below their BASELINE spending levels?”
Starving the spendaholic US Federal Government politicians is a very good idea, so I respectfully disagree with you on the topic of re-instating ANY tax.
Once a tax is made inactive, it should then be abolished: STARVE THE FEDERAL BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FORCE THE FEDERAL BEAST TO BASELINE REDUCE SPENDING OUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Denying 100,000 pipeline jobs to American Citizens AT NO COST TO THE DAMNED US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is an excellent example of putting the Democrat party above Country. Their political “deals” are similar to pissing into the wind! These political “deals” solve nothing, and make everybody downwind worse off!
The bone-headed con job that is going on now is that “All tax cuts must be paid for .” The reason the con job is being used is that the spendaholic Federal politicians want to keep the US Federal Government GROWING!
If America is to survive the damned US Federal Government, (Public Enemy Number One), we Americans have to force the Damned Federal politicians to cut spending BELOW THE PREVIOUS YEAR’S SPENDING!
As Radio Announcer Paul Harvey said: “ WHEN YOUR OUTGO EXCEEDS YOUR INCOME, YOUR UPKEEP WILL BE YOUR DOWNFALL.”
BTW, all Debt has to be paid back with interest. Thus, at 4 % Debt interest, The Total National Debt will double, even with a Balanced Budget Amendment.
BTW, BTW, pretend that you do NOT want to pass along a huge National DEBT to YOUR grandchildren - - - . Just pretend - - - .

” - - - He falls down in thinking that the well made argument wins the argument and in politics it doesnt work that way. - - - “
This is a very revealing, insightful observation!
Ponder this:
1.) This observation goes a long way towards explaining the fact of Obama’s arrogance: Once Obama states his argument, everybody must agree that all future DISCUSSION is just mindless bickering.
2.) In the last debate, whenever Romney made a BETTER “well made argument” than the argument that Obama was thinking of, Obama just nodded his head in defeat, and looked at the floor anxious to go stand in the corner.
3.) As a weak and incompetent financial steward, all CHALLENGES to his memorized statements render Obama unable to comprehend that he has to think on his feet, by himself against an adversary. As a result Obama is able only to repeat his memorized statement. For example, just count the number of times that Obama repeated the “5 Trillion Dollars” after Romney told him that wasn’t in his plan.
_______
I have put 3 key words in caps from the above 3 thoughts.
Consider now, that we are hiring a CEO to run the World’s most powerful company, in this case the US Federal Government.
IMHO, a good CEO would want to hold frequent Board Meetings to encourage DISCUSSION, generate BETTER arguments, and CHALLENGE every idea from every angle.
How then, you LURKERS, can you vote for Obama who is lacking in all 3 of these CEO characteristics?
