50 hours isn’t a very long work week (go talk to a farmer, or a machinist, or even a fast food manager) and private sector jobs outside of banking have nowhere near the holidays government workers get, let alone summers off.
I Know what machinists and engineers make. That is how I paid my way through school with out benefit of government loans. I worked full time and went to school almost full time and carried a 3.96 QPA for two Bachelors and 2 Masters degrees.
Nor will you see many private sector jobs with retirement benefits even in the same solar system with their government counterparts. I have a book written in the twenties about how to lie with statistics. The first, third, and sixth rules are all “Always use averages; never, ever, use the mean.” Do enlighten us all. What do you make including benefits, and what is the mean income for an adult in your state.
I earn about 45,000 per year, (For the past 5 years, our salaries hafve been frozen for that long. Not complaining simply stating a fact.) I get Health insurance, and have to pay for my wifes. This includes a $10o-pay for prescriptuions.I also get a 10K life insurance plan. I have to pay my own dental. Myretirement is 60% of my final average salary after 20 years. I will be able to collect that when I am 67.
As an Engineer I would have been able to retire at age 57 with a heck of a lot more including full medical dental, and 500K life insurance. I would also have been making almost double. I have never been accused of any sort of misconduct, sexual or otherwise. But I am tired of quite a few people on this forum lumping ALL teachers in with the whack jobs. Are all police officers corrupt? Do all Priests commit pedophilia? Certainly not but teachers are maligned quite a bit on this forum
And Seriously, if you truly believe that we teachers have it so good; Come on in, Get a teaching certificate and Masters degree within 5 years and join the ranks. We do need more conservatives voices.
